On the 3rd of February 2011 a few of us from this forum will be meeting up in Dronfield near Sheffield. We are wanting to start a new monthly meeting for the Manta club in our area. So far we've got 6 people interested in coming along, but expect this number to grow rapidly in the next few months. There are quite a few old school Opels and Vauxhalls in the area (most of them still being rebuilt) and it would be good to get them all together in the same place. In the area there's 2 Manta A series we know of,4 Manta B coupes,7 Manta C coupes,2 Manta 400 replicas, an 1800 GT hatchback, 4 Chevettes,2 Kadett C's (one coupe and one 2 door saloon) , 3 mk1 Cavaliers and an Ascona. We've still to contact a few of these car's owners. We're meeting at a Pub called the Bowshaw Inn ,located at the top of Dronfield (between Sheffield and Chesterfield) and will be there from around 7.30pm onwards. We're not sure if we can class this an an "official" Opel Manta owners club meet at the moment as it's just a few mates meeting up at a pub to see who's who from this forum and talk all night about Mantas/Kadetts etc. So if you've run out of people to tell all your Manta stories to and are free for an evening on the 3rd, come and say hello- everyone's welcome.... Luke.

Hello all,

It looks like we've got Eight people coming to the first meet on the 3rd of February. If anyone else wants to come along they are more than welcome. The Bowshaw Inn is now called the" Toby carvery" and is just off a large roundabout at the Sheffield end of Dronfield.Follow the signs for Dronfield and it's on the right. The postcode there is S18 2GA . See you later ... Luke

The new meeting went well last night,

I arrived about 7.30 at the Bowshaw Inn to find it's now called the Toby Carvery. This was not good as I thought most of the people planning on coming were unfamiliar with the area and would probably just drive straight past! Anyway I pulled into the carpark to find two lads,Paul and Mick, talking in front of a Red Manta B coupe and an Omega estate. These two had driven past the pub so I apologised for my balls up with the pub name and introduced myself. A couple of minutes later my mate Darren pulled up in his RWD starlet and we all started looking round the cars. Rob then turned up in his jeep and we went inside. The pub seemed alright and has free refills on soft drinks so makes for a very cheap night out if you're driving. 10 minutes later, Paul arrived in his Porsche, everyone was introduced and we all talked about where we are from, how far along we all are with our projects at the moment and everything else Opel. Quite a few of us new each other anyway but it was good to meet other new people and get to know about them and their Cars. A few of us also had spare parts that would be usefull to each other so I can see the next meeting looking a bit like an Autojumble. I think we were there a couple of hours but ended up leaving early as the rain outside was heavy and there were strong winds. As I drove home I was thinking about Mick driving his B all the way back to Barnsley and having to put up with misted up windows and getting blown about by the gails! ( poor lad!) Anyway..Thanks for coming. I had a good night and hope everyone else did and would definately like to do this again next month.....

See you in March? Luke.

I don't know about Mick getting blown back to Barnsley in the gail, but muggins wasn't paying attention as I came off Prince of Wales Rd onto the Sheff Parkway I didn't see the lake that had gathered on the inside of the roundabout.Couldn't see a damn thing & only had wipers on intermittant.Nearly put it in the barrier...Anyway got home safely after a brief session of bullying some backwards baseball caps in a saxo...

Might see you next month then if all goes well... :thumbup

Cheers

Dill

Wasnt too bad going home on wednesday but chuff me Ive just been to Blackpool in the B for the North west stages Rally and it rained all the way there, it rained while we were there and it rained all the way home, the car never missed a beat, steady 70/80 and as i neared home had a quick 100ish, it defo needs a 5 speed box though, and to my suprise the rear pasenger side foot well had about an inch of water in it, so ive taken the rubber bung out, i will sort that if it stops raining.......................

Casper,

Poor old B's clocked up a few miles this last week then hasn't it? It just goes to show, they're still good as a daily driver, but might benefit from a bit of modernising like you were on about on Thursday night.

You even clocked 100 on the way back (good lad!) . Did you notice a 5 litre Porsche trying to keep up with a Saxo on the way home on Thursday night? See you later... Luke

Glad to hear your meet went well. :thumbup :thumbup

Although it is now to late to book a room, don't forget we are holding the club "Spring get Together" in Seffield next month and you could always pop a long for a chat in the bar.
