GMC
I need to change my sump gasket on my redtop Manta. Doesn't look like much space between the bottom of the sump & the crossmember. A few of questions for you...... 1. Presumably if I loosen the engine mounts and lift the engine a couple of inches there is room to remove the sump? 2. What sump gasket type is best. Currently its the double cork type, but I always have a leak with this type. 3. Do you normally use a sealer as well as the sump gasket. I did, but it still leaked!! Thanks
rutts
you may just get sump off but it will need to be lifted a fair way to clear pick up pipe. if you have the xe anti oil surge plate in use the surge plate with bonded gaskets fitted full thing is £20 if i remember correctly. when i did mine i used a single cork gasket with steel inserts (early carlton 1.8) so you tighten it down correctly and i used a bit of wellseal on each side. as you can guess i did not use the xe surge guard as the manta 1.8 sump is adequate without it. mickappy
ive used the ecotech sump gasket with windage tray bonded to it, these very rarley leak compared to cork. and i do reccommend the tray to stop the oil parting at high revs. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OIL-SUMP-BAFFLE-PLATE-GASKET-C20XE-90528632-/360434399985
