Sutty2006
Do you need a running engine to put straight in? Or an engine you can refresh yourself?

Nick86
Budget wise I'm pretty flexible as long as its a sensable upgrade what kind of cost and time scale are we looking at? Will it fit 1.6s cavalier running gear?
611
Hi Nick This is going to be a bit of a long reply to explain it all. The engine is a 1.9 and was rebuilt a few years back with new pistons, bearings and a reground crank, with a 2.0l head. When it was built the engine was bored out to take oversize 2.0l pistons (95.5mm) so its over a 2.0l, the head has had bigger inlet valves fitted (inlet 44mm and (36mm exhaust which i think are standard) and has been ported etc.. and has a kent fast road cam. The engine was put back in the car and did about 3'000 miles with no problems and ran very well. I ran it with twin 45 carbs and it had about 130bhp (at flywheel). The car was then taken off the road for a rebuild and the engine sat in the garage for about 5 years. So as i was getting nearer the time to put the engine back in the car i thought i best to get the engine ready, so stripped it down, had the bores honed, took the head off and there was a crack in the top of the back valve guide, so as its such a good head i decided to have this replaced. New valve guide fitted and head had a quick skim. Block and head completely cleaned and ready to go. Cost about £230. So there i am ready to put it all back together with new gaskets, main seals, exhaust gasket, thermostat etc.. and then along comes the opportunity to buy a frontera engine! So now i have the frontera engine with new pistions, cam and other bits to go in mine, which leaves me with the other engine spare. So to sum it up the engine owes me about £450 as it is with the block and head built back up. (im just waiting for some engine lube to arrive so i can put back together the block and head) Im waiting on a new head gasket and timing chain so then i can assemble the whole engine. If the engine was fully built back up i would be looking at around £600 as it will be like a new engine, it wont come with ancillaries or a new water pump but will be ready to drop straight in prime and run. The block is the same as a 1.6 (mine use to be a 1.6) the only thing that might need an upgrade from a 1.6 is the starter as it needs a bit more to turn it over. Im happy to sell it part built or fully built. Andy
