Anybody heading over to watch The biggest historic rally of the year?

both BHRC and RACC championships are running together with Myherin or 'Pikes Peak' being run up and downhill! + Sweet Lamb and Hafren stages.

Jimmy McRae has entered in a Group 2 Magnum Firenza, The Crooks hoping for a bit more luck in the Manta after the strut went through the inner wing! and Peter Smith in the Ascona A will all be out to play amongst the hoards of escorts driven beyond the edge!!

Hi all hope you had a good day today. We finally got the manta to the finish - anyone see our mug spin on the first hairpin, can't believe how slippy it was and we changed rear tyre pattern at first service to SP61s. Much better after that - finished 9 o/a 1st in class and the repaired inner wing and turret supports appear to have done the biz. Big thanks to Ian Joel, Rob hinds! my dad Keith and co dvr bro Alister for the teamwork. Next event Severn valley may 31st

Hope Rob will get some footage and photos up

Cheers all

yep I saw the the spin was standing on the long hairpin up the hill from there. Still a lot quicker getting up there than most even with a spin! didn't make it to sweet lamb in the end so no manta magic water splash style photos from me :( will sort through photos and videos tomorrow. Great result, thanks for entertaining us in the wet conditions! made the 3 hr drive up there more worth it.

let me know if you or rob want a hand with an article for the mag or some photos I have some from red kite also.

don't fancy the Somerset in April to keep your hand in?

all the best,

Chris

Hi Chris you did well sticking with it, the weather was pretty grim. Rob is planning to write it up, he has first hand of the mud as he was lying in it most of the day (christened his new wet suit) hook up with him though on your perspective. Really pleased with the car it's been a lot of work getting it ready for gravel and it's got a lot of potential especially when you consider we are giving away 30 bhp or so to escorts. We won't make Somerset even though it's one of our favourite events, some good results there in the past and Porlock is epic. Ian Joel Escort WRC may be out, he is the principle preparer of our car and he has won the Somerset so may be worth going as well as the Bogie/Thorburn battle. Hopefully meet up later in the year. Thx for your support and I look fwd to photos etc

Cheers Simon

Hi Ian, thx for comments and glad we put up a show. The car handles extremely well and once on the right tyres felt very stable so it was relatively easy, the big question was how quickly she would stop. The car has had loads of positive comments everywhere we went there's a lot of manta fans out there.

BTW Where are you with your car now?

Cheers Simon

Hi Chris, Ian a combined reply.

Probably meet JB on the woodpecker , problem is if we beat him he will say he's past his best (he's plus 10 years on me) if he beats us we have no argument! He's a good friend and we have had some battles in the past and he pedals very well. It's a favourite event of ours and very fast very competitive so hopefully you can get along. Thx for photos and edit,

Ian looking fwd to seeing you out - last year was a bind as we were getting the car ready it's surprising that a rally ready car actually needed so much doing with it - that said we are quite fussy and it's come together well. We will try to keep as is for this year but with some upgrades at year end. We may convert to full historic but need to understand how competitive the car would be and at what cost. Pete smiths Ascona and kadett go very well and if we can get similar performance for a reasonable sum then that may be the way to go. Any pointers appreciated.

Cheers Simon
