CRAZYDAVE
Has anyone fitted a better Fusebox that is a simple swap? The standard one is terrible!

opelmantagsi
No easy swap that I could find, once you get into it you end up re wiring. Added a year to my project and a lot of money. If doing again I would go straight for a off the shelf wiring harness kit from either painless wiring or Ron Francis
mantadoc
A fuse box is a fuse box. As long as the terminals are tight on the fuses there are no problems with these, only issues I have found are corroded fuses, give them a spin, and heater fan one can get hot and shorten the fuse plastic leading to a bad connection, root cause is worn fan drawing too much current. For those who are interested, the standard fuse block site in s a cradle, very easily to slide another salvaged manta fuse block in on top of it and then you can either separate some circuits or have plenty of expansion. lamchop77
Have a look at car builder solutions, they do a stand alone fuse box, all you have to do is connect the wires. Has the relays etc built in. It's about 100 quid but for the time it will save i think it's worth it. opelmantagsi
would be good to have some of the OMOC key board mechanics do some "how too" threads
mantadoc
would be good to have some of the OMOC key board mechanics do some "how too" threads Fans, Hazards, Voltage stabilisers, the 2P trick, 6 cylinder conversions, there's a few examples of my how to-ing on here, but the Manta fuse box has not cost me 10 mins of time across 24 years. If it takes longer to upgrade than the time it costs I'm leaving it alone. Pareto principal (leaves more time for welding)

I have not done this myself but can get photos of the example I have seen if needed. this car is owned by a German living in NZ who is an ex Opel Factory development technician. my experience is the Manta wiring loom is a can of worms, its 30 odd years old now. the actual wire is very good quality, the copper is good high copper content and the insulation remains supple on each of the 3 looms I have taken apart I have found the odd broken wire in the harness and lots of verdigris in terminals and connections. we ended up making a custom loom out of two Manta looms and one Calibra loom. the calibra wire was lower grade copper wire with harder insulation, the wires are very stiff so I am guessing its cheaper materials. from there we used Vectra / Astra fuse / relay boxes in the engine bay and replaced every crimped receptacle at the fuse / relay terminals and fitted modern weather proof plugs throughout. it was a huge job, but we have most of the wiring concealed now. The main drivers on this for me were to conceal the wiring, upgrade and split out the power supplies, LED lighting and have a modern fuse box with blade circuit breakers instead of fuses. I could not have done any of this without my German friend, but I am a quick learner. would I do that again? No I would not! if I was rewiring a car I would buy a new generic type loom with plenty of ways, which would probably upset my German friend, but he was not the one paying the bills! the existing Manta fuse box is ok in my opinion, on another Manta I have we just got in there with electrical terminal cleaner and gave it a real birthday and it comes up like new with very little time and expense, just some elbow grease and care. the bullet fuses are what they are, 30 year old technology. if this site is ever upgraded a well run and organised how to section is a must, would be good to see a section dedicated to step for step how to examples done by anyone prepared to give it a go and prepared to take the time to share the information.

There is a Manta modifications section and a thousand years of old Manta magic from back in the day to download with a wealth of knowledge I think the site ran out of space years ago and a lot of the good older content got truncated / gone forever so a real shame that (if I am correct of course) However, a site upgrade is not a pre-requisite, words and pictures are words and pictures regardless of forum software flavours and versions.
