andyc
Hey Paul In a word yes it has been done and by one of your country men as well. Ok start with the motor, go for a 3.0 not the 3.2 as the 3.2 is DBW (drive by wire). You will need to make the engine mounts and a sump as the Omega ones are no use, standard inlet manifold is a tad to tall so you'll either need to bulge the bonnet or go for a Vectra V6 set up or Cavailer/Calibra manifold. Engine Management is another problem, if using an Omega set up you'll either have to use as is due to the immobilizer or again find an early Cavalier/Calibra wiring and ECU as these are a Motronic 1.5 and they wire up the same as a red top. Due to the engine being right back againist the bulk head you will need to have exhaust manifolds made that go straight down and then back but this will mean you will need to fit a remote oil filter . Gear box, 1.8 Trans will fit but if drive it hard don't expect it to last long and you'll need to mix and match the clutch and flywheel. Omega Box will fit so you can use the Omega clutch and flywheel but you will need to work out the hydraulic clutch as you can't convert to cable and you will also need and electric speedo as there is no cable drive, the Omega speedo works via the ABS system. Also you will need to mod the prop with an Omega front half and Manta rear. If you a 2.0 Carlton one that will solve most of the problems Std Fueling shouldn't give any problems, an LSD might be an idea as would a steel torque tube plus uprate brakes and suspension. Its a lot of work and everything will been to be made, nothing available off the shelf like the 16v setup but worth doing just to be different, i'm still collecting parts, most of which i now have but i have a GT to build first Good luck if you go this route and please keep us up to date with progress Cheers Andy
