However, if the brown wire goes to the terminal in the plastic at one end and the motor at the other and is connected to nothing else and the red wire goes from other motor terminal to the terminal on the (wire wound) resistor and nothing else then normally the terminal on the right by the red wire is fast fan setting and the one on the left is slow fan setting because it goes through all the resistor. However, no idea just educated guess based on experience and what I can see. My Polo fan had 3 terminals on the resistor for slow, medium and fast.
