Metalbasher
Hello all. I’m looking at the original fuel line components (tank to pump) on my 1980 Sportshatch. There are three metal pipes that are part of the fuel line, the longer two of which I’ve forgotten where they are located (having took them off the car some 30 years ago). Haynes offers no insight, can anyone help remind me how the two are positioned? Photos maybe?
Jessopia74
Think it’s supposed to be 1 piece from tank to front, rubber to lift pump, then a pipe that goes back around rear bulkhead ? To feed carb
cam.in.head
the longer metal peice just goes from the tank outlet(via a short hose) around the front of the tank above the rear axle. yellow pvc / nylon to front and stops near alternator. hose down to fuel pump . short hose to metal pipe up front of engine by top radiator hose and to carb inlet.(via hose on 1.6) small metal bracket to camshaft cover bolt. Metalbasher
Thanks both. Did make me think that I may have the cut pipe into two when fitting a Malpassi fuel filter, but if one length is installed near the tank that makes sense. I’ll take a look at the fit-up the weekend
cam.in.head
yes on the carb models the yellow fuel line runs down the passenger side but the tank outlet at theback is on the drivers side hence the metal link pipe above the axle.
Metalbasher
Can anyone tell me how this fuel line bracket is bolted to on the engine please? My bracket is broken so will need to repair, but I can’t recall to what it is attached to to help construct the fixing (stock photo by the way, not my car).. cam.in.head
it screws to one of the front cam cover bolts(the triangular plate) shouldnt be difficult to make a little bracket. the original also has a little extra section that the vacuum advance pipe can hook into as well but most are cable tied to the top hose . Metalbasher
Thanks. I’m assuming it fits to the front of the plate, rather than the sealing face to the cylinder head? My bracket is intact other than needing the mounting hole section adding again, looks like it fractured at some point.
