Snowy
Do all vauxhall 1800 8 valve engines, SV, S, SE. E etc. all use the same pistons? Thanks
gunman
It's doubtful (although I donk know 100%) as I think the 'S' in the code indicated compression ratio (it does on the 2.0l's) the se and seh have higher compression pistons than the ne for example and I would imagine it could be the same for 1800's. You would have thought that but the E has a higher compression ratio than the S and SV. Does anyone have a parts catalogue they could look in. pma
Hi Graham, here we go then; The Vauxhall engine codes 1.8SV & 1.8SEH & 1.8SE do use the same pistons, AE part number 23379,have checked with them today and Standard (STD) and 0.5m/m are still available. Vauxhall engine code 1.8E uses AE piston part number 21296,these are now gone from range Vauxhall engine code 1.8S uses AE piston part number 21295,these are now gone from range So as you can see, they don't all share the same piston/s,but the 1.8E & 1.8S do use the same piston rings. If you do need/want 21295 or 21296 there is a company in Shrewsbury who specialise in old, obsolete engine parts called F.W.THORTONS,they won't be cheap, but they do carry some gear. Hope this is what you're after Graham, cheers.
Snowy
The reason i ask is that i have a very low milage 1.8SV engine and an ok 1.8E engine. I was trying to decide if i should take the head off the 1.8E and put it onto the 1.8SV block. I think i will take the heads off both and have a look. I will let everyone know what i find.
