eldoradoCoupe
Hi Folks, Can anyone help id the bellhousing in the attached photos. I'm told its from a bedford CF so should be for a ZF gearbox. Its not for the slant 4 engine that was fitted to the CF since it has the starter motor on the opposite side entirely. The only other motor which I think was fitted to the CF was a CIH so I have it screwed up to the back of a CIH engine and its very close. The top and right hand side bolt holes all line up and the locating lugs are in the right place but not the bolt holes around the starter motor. Anyone any ideas what this is for? Cheers http://s1178.photobucket.com/albums/x363/rodglind/ZF/
andyc
Well if it came from a CF and its not a CIH or Slant Four then i would say it might be from one of the Diesel motors that Bedford used like a Perkins or Cummins. Problem with the CF it that they got bodged with so may different motors and gear boxes it was sometime impossible to say what they left the factory with Andy
drew
i am almost sure that the bellhousing you have is from the early opel diesel engine with the 4 speed or the 4 cylinder bedford tk cast iron box. i will look at the zf box i have tomorrow, i am almost sure the zf bellhousing is an alloy part.the lower brackets on the diesel engine and the cih bedford cf are different from the standard manta cih brackets.also the diesel has a bigger starter thats why there is an extra bolt hole on the bellhousing. hope this helps. regards drew. MANTAMAN
The Bedford CF 2 350D that i have has a CIH type engine, 2.3L diesel and though i'd need too look to be certain, if it did have a larger starter motor to cope with cranking a Diesel then this would explain why the bellhousing mated up except for the starter area. drew
i had a look at the zf box i have, the bellhousing looks the same as the one you have. the zf box i have was fitted to a cih petrol engine that was fitted to a 1986 bedford cf. the bellhousing on the zf is a cast steel/iron item not alloy as i first thought. the lower brackets are different on the cf cih to the manta cih. hope this helps. eldoradoCoupe
Thanks for the replies guys, the bellhousing's taking up unnecessary room so I was trying to figure out whether it was worth keeping for a rainy day but if it only fits a bedford CIH it looks like its not. What about the Manta 400 engine, I presume its the same as a Manta CIH?
