matt24680
hi guys i am in the process of taking my cars suspension out the ball joint on the track rod end came off with the ball joint puller tool but on the upper and lower one they are that stiff the puller wont pull any more or the bolt will shear is the best way to go put heat on it to expand the outside or using a balljoint fork that you hammer in? thanks
mantadoc
I usually use a scissor type and if it doesn't split with that once the tension is on a tap on the side of the joint with a hammer to jar it makes it pop off for me. However, not recomending that that's just what I do with my own stuff. No warranty implied or given etc.
opel2000
Must admit that the tap on the side with the hammer is the best way, I've seen it done and been shown how it's done, but for some reson I personally have not been able to do it. I've tend to use a fork type seperator, but this has the disadvantage of splitting the rubber covers to the ball joints, and when re-using the ball joints I've ended up supergluing the rubber covers back together. mantasrme
Yep i always use the Tap on the side method myself so the rubber boots are kept in good condition. Just arrange it so the joint is not under compression and it'll pop apart 99% of the time NOTE: Tap means thumping it on the side as hard as possible with a big hammer
