399Road Posted March 31, 2011 Share Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) Hello again, I'm planning another new area meeting at Dronfield near Sheffield again next week. Everyone's been busy this last month sorting their cars out and there should be a new car to look around this time. Paul's got his new GTE coupe tested, so I'm hoping to see it for the first time on Thursday night. My Ascona is now back on the road with it's new and much improved cylinder head,and seems a fair bit faster with all the EGR rubbish removed from the Exhaust ports. Darren's RWD Starlet's zetec conversion is well on it's way and he's been making inlet and exhaust manifolds to suit, I've also heard a rumour that he's had the car cover off the Kadett last week. Mick's been upgrading and modernising his B coupe with a new engine and five speed conversion, a four branch manifold and stainless system, six dial dash and Bi-Xenon lights. The other Paul, from Doncaster, has bought a ZF LSD for his 16 Valve hatchback, and Rob has been up to his neck in Polybushes and custom made Anti roll bars for his Manta A. I've also rescued another car this month, A one owner from new and with only 27000 miles on the clock Lada Riva. It's a minter and is not far off show car condition. I wasn't out looking for one of these cars ( you would probably end up on some kind of register if you got caught doing that! ).I was just in the right place at the right time and couldn't say no. The old bloke who owned it was giving up driving and wanted to move his car on to a caring new owner. He says that the car has never spent a night outside since he bought it in 1995! Anyway... If you've got next Thursday evening spare and would like to join in taking the pi** out of me for buying an old Lada then come and say hello... ..... Ukraine on the Brain.... Luke... We meet at the Toby Carvery ( formerly the Bowshaw Inn ) at the top of Dronfield, from around 7.30PM and I'll be bringing the camera this time, now we've got some daylight. casper1483 Posted April 1, 2011 Share Posted April 1, 2011 Hey up mate Taxing the 76 today, had a quick drive up and down the hill to see how it goes, not too many snags, Ive put a new seal kit in the master cylinder it was a right pig to bleed and then the brakes were dragging cos I'd adjustered the rod from the servo too much but was an easy fix, so even though its raining i'll take it out to iron out any probs so hopefully i'll see you there, you should have that Lada as a booby prize like they do on top gear, if any bodys car dunt make it they have to drive that......................Mick Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It sounds like you could do with us lot coming to your football night if you're at the bottom of the league mate! Some of us go to the Retro Rides meet at Meadowhall Retail park, Where " Toys are us" are, in Sheffield on the first Monday night of each month. This Retro Rides meet might be better for you. Our Mantaclub meetings have all been on Thursday nights so far as this seemed to be the best day for most people to attend. I'll look forward to meeting up with you sometime soon. casper1483 Posted April 1, 2011 Share Posted April 1, 2011 No mate, Ive fitted the exclusives it was just a case of " Bolt off, Bolt on " but for some reason it woudnt start did all the usual checks and found the coil was duff, strange as i drove it to its final resting place and its been in a box for about 6 months, it all adds to the reliability.. 399Road Posted April 1, 2011 Author Share Posted April 1, 2011 Spoke to Darren earlier today and the Starlet's new engine is mounted. He's mounted it off the Chassis rails and had to chop and reweld the Alloy sump and front crossmember. The Cortina box's mount was only about an inch away from the Toyota's tunnel crossmember. The Bulkhead, tunnel sides and heater have lost the fight for space with the Gearbox.There's a special water rail you need when you RWD the Zetec engine and he's going to make his own. He's on with making the Manifolds on Saturday if all goes to plan. The Starlet won't be done for Thursday night but he'll still be there in his van...... 399Road Posted April 2, 2011 Author Share Posted April 2, 2011 Mick, Jason's still got those wide Rostyles... I need to ring him about the meet on Thursday night. Last time I spoke to him his Kadett was panelled up and the new Honda engine and box were in place. To the untrained eye his car will still look standard but underneath it's 100% new and will definately suprise a few supercars!...... I'll give him a ring and ask about your wheels again. I'm sure it would have turned a few heads in the carpark... While it's been parked outside work it's attracted more attention than the Ascona ! People have been taking photos of it and photos of me polishing it! Two blokes who spoke like Borat said " We are from Hungary... In our country we have many these motorcars...We been here many years and not seen a Lada motorcar". They took pictures of the car and engine. I should have told them about our Granville...
