mantaboy89
Just bought a 2.2 Carlton engine and a 2.0 GTE engine, before I start rebuilding it i was wondering if anyone knew the best way to get power from the 2.2, is the gte cam or head better to use than the 2.2 cam and head, is the 2.0 flywheel lighter? Etc,also wondering if anyone has had any experience with mega squirt systems? Any help would be much appreciated Thanks Josh
rutts
2.2 head is the best of the lot , balance and lighten bottom end new rings or rebore, monza flywheel is good for big clutch get it shaved down a bit though, cam depends on what you are doing with car, 45 dellortos or injection its up to you. lamchop77
Best way for power, do as Rutts says above but be aware that the pistons for the 2.2 are expensive and pretty hard to come by in overbored sizes and std sizes as well to be perfectly honest (127+ vat last time i checked) If you need pistons get em copied by JE or similar then you can up the CR and they will be forged for less cash. Flywheel - 2.2 is fine get it modified to fit a calibra turbo clutch kit (cheapest option for no slip!) Skim it down to 7.5kg but dont go any lighter. Dont skim it below 12mm at any point either. Steel flywheel would be better, skimming cast ones can be a bit risky so its up to you. Cam - go for something like a 244 Kent, bigger capacity CIH will soak up duration taming the cam so it will prob behave more like a fast road/rally rather than a rally race cam as its listed (supersports to be precise) Inlet manifolds for the 2.2 heads are expensive new and they dont pop up too often, mine were about 220 quid for the pair. Carbs - no smaller than 45's Megasquirt stuff is good but you need someone who knows about it, and obviously it will need rolling roading. Exhaust - dont bother with a 4 branch just use the std 2.0 cast manifold and downpipes to a big bore system. Mine was at 175-180 bhp with one. mantaboy89
Striped down the 2.2 and found it all in very good condition, going to use a 2.0 carb manifold with single carb possibly webber? Which would be best? Don't want to go the route of twin 45s as shes my daily and would bankrupt me. lol,
spiney_norman
You'll want a 38DGAS I reckon, should suit a 2.2 engine.
