Nick_Sed
Hi all, Recently bought myself a 2.0 GT/E that has been stood for a while. I've bled the brakes and replaced any damaged pipes but when I start the car the pedal fades away and when driving the pedal can fade to the floor when braking. Is this the servo or could it be a problem with the master cylinder? I disconnected and blocked the vac pipe to see if this made a difference, the pedal obviously became harder to push but would still fade off. Any help appreciated. When its running properly I'll get some pics up. Nick
spiney_norman
Sounds like master cylinder to me, if you pump the pedal a few times does it come back?
Nick_Sed
Thanks for the quick response. Yeah if I let the pedal off and push it back on again the pedal is firm. Edited June 18, 2012 by Nick_Sed
spiney_norman
Yep, my money's on the master cylinder seals. You may be able to get a rebuild kit from Bigg Red, or someone on here should have a decent second hand cylinder for you!

andyc
Had a Master Cylinder done by these guys http://www.pastparts.co.uk/ a few months ago. Had the cylinder overbored and a stainless liner fitted with all new seals etc Cost was around a hundred quid and turn round was around a week Cheers Andy
dynamytedan
my master has also been fading away slightly for a long time now . ive had my eye on this ebay one for some time but when masters for other cars cost £30 why should this old stock manta one be £66 ?! and its £95 from my local factors if they can get it . http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250862866040?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 and im not sure its the right one anyway ...Delco ? i thought i had an ATE . i like the idea of a stainless sleeve and new seal kit from pastparts (good info Andyc ) . again a bit pricey but its going to be 100% good permanently so much more tempting, unlike an old stock unit which can go wrong sometimes . Nick_Sed
Thanks for the replys guys. Think I'm going to see about the over boring route, know I'm pretty sure what the problem is (thanks spiney_norman and stradacab). I mentioned it to someone I know and theres a guy a reasonably close by who can do them and is supposed to be quite good but if not I'll try those guys (thanks andyc) Thanks for the reply dynamytedan the delco ones seem to be a bit easier to find than the ATE ones but I think they require a bit of messing about to fit and like you say the bored out one will be a solid part where old stock could let you down. There is a ATE one on Eurocarparts (http://www.eurocarpa...341b56e3) buts its £100. Thanks again Nick Edited June 19, 2012 by Nick_Sed
