Denis K
What would be the best diff for a road car, quaife or the gripper?? And where could i buy a Decent ratio crown wheel and pinion such as a 4.6 ratio or something similar to that? Who sells an axle rebuild kit? TJM
Hello If you want a fit and forget then Quaife is what you are after, however if you are wanting grip on the loose and tuneability then the Gripper Plate LSD is better (but maintenance will have to be carried out as plates wear and need replaceing - how often will be down to your driving style). As for CWP you could try ebay.de for secondhand ones or Risse Motorsport for new but expect to pay a lot of money. Axle rebuild kits are again available on ebay. mantasrme
Personally i would always go for a plate diff rather that the Quaife torque biasing diff but some people running the Quaife in road cars (not mantas) are very happy with them. You can get a new Gripper with prettymuch any setup inside you want, and if you're not sure what you need in the way of pre-load and ramp angles just tell them what sort of driving you're doing and they'll set it up for you. As for the CWP why would you want such a low ratio for a road car?
Retro Power
Ditto Mantasrme, gripper are very good to deal with (John Mac is a very good engineer) Plates will last a long time (many years), they are not a regular replacement item
Denis K
Thanks for the replies lads. Ya I heard quaife arent that great to deal with and the lads who make the gripper diffs are supposed to be spot on. From what ye are saying and the fact that they can build it to suit a persons needs i think i will go with a gripper. As regards the pinion ratio i would like to have a rally feel to the car if ye know what i mean as it will be a 400 replica Id say a 4.6 would probably be a bit too high alright for a road car. if i could get something around 4.1 that would suit me perfect. 16VManta
3.9:1 is standard in the Kadett GTE. As I remember it, 4.22:1, 4.7:1 & 5.28:1 were the available aftermarket ratios. I have a 3.9:1 cwp which may be up for sale soon. As stated above, get a plate diff. Edited March 18, 2013 by 16VManta
