hi,my manta seems to be using too much fuel,it idles slightly lumpy and smokes abit, the engine and head have been fully rebuilt,i have checked and rechecked the timing, the bores were badly worn when stripped, the previous owner stopped using it in 1997 because it cost too much to run,he had always run it on 4 star because he did'nt think it was compatible with unleaded, could it be the injectors or just let the garage set the air/fuel mixture, any ideas, thanks.

hi,its a nearly finished project so not yet on the road, just in and out of the garage and idle,it runs for about 25 mins on a gallon of petrol the previous owner said it got too thirsty to run and blamed the lumpy idle on the solid lifters,he said it runs better now than it ever did,it idles like my old mini did on full choke, its not getting hot or leaking fuel.60-70 miles on £20 maybe its ok afterall.

1.8 Berlinetta seems to average about 28mpg, £20 buys less than 3.5 gallon of fuel atm.

Cam.in.head you only get about 20mpg ? Heavy left foot ?

my manta (2.0E) was bad on fuel, about 15-17 mpg, i found that i had low compression on all four cylenders, and i think that that was causing the issue. so i would advise double checking the compressions. by the way does anyone know where to get new pistonrings from.
