Ems
I've replaced the torque tube rubber and bearing but when it's tightened to 87 lb f ft as in the Haynes manual the shaft stops spinning freely. Should I loosen off the nut? Thanks
Julian
I would Emms, but in small stages, if it has the required effect after just say, up to one or maybe 1.5 turns there should'nt be a problem, but if you have to really slacken it off something is not right, then again if the shaft turns after you have just slackened it slightly you will need to check it again at a later date, have you tried some oil on it? Ems
Thanks Julian, it's got grease both sides of the bearing holder and spins freely until I get to around 60 lb f ft
tony g
Could it be that the bearing is not fully seated? If the distance is "shorter" the nut will squeeze the bearing inner onto the outer and bind. Never done one on these so might be talking rubbish Id give the bearing a good "tap" into the housing and try again. The torque should be done properly imo without probs. Good luck Tony

Good luck Tony That does make sense also Tony. Emms, the Bearing you have replaced, is it genuine OE, or a pattern bearing that is not one of the top makers such as Timkin,SKF, etc, even a couple of thou in it's depth would cause the problem, what Tony suggests, using a good brass drift and checking if it is fully home in the housing, is worth a try. Ems
It's a OE bearing, beginning to think the donut isn't on properly either. I didn't pull it apart so have no reference unfortunately. Should the donut come over the lip on the side the torque tube bolts to? Does anyone have any pictures?
