I think solid bushes would be way too hard for a road car and would produce a lot of vibration too.

You could fill the voids in the original bushes with tigerseal or windscreen bonding to help stiffen them up but again not an ideal solution in my opinion.

An uprated polybush would be much better solution for a road car but nobody poduces them.

If we got a list of people together who would buy these maybe we could ask Retropower to produce them.

Anybody interested?

Solid mounting the crossmember shouldn't increase the vibrations as the wishbones and engine are all rubber bushed.

Most car cross members/ subframes are not rubber bushed.

The works rally cars welded 90deg brackets to the bottom of the chassis rail either side and used the bolt through the bush to attach the crossmember to the car

I had considered that but I didn't realise it came from the works cars (I thought it was a bit rough tbh). It sounds like the cheapest and easiest solution

I've got some pics somewhere, I'll dig them out.

Did you manage to find any pics? Also looking for info on what the works cars did with the rear subframe mounting where it bolts through the swan neck. Was this made solid too as there's not really any need for it too be bushed as far as I can see

Thanks for the pics David I should have asked about these before I painted!! I'll have to see how much my local engineer will charge to make up the bushes, if there going to cost the earth I might just have to poly bush them instead. I'm surprised someone like yourself or Retropower don't supply mountings like this or the alloy top mounts like Gerry Johnstone use to sell

There's not that high a demand for the solid rear bushes as the poly ones are easily available and easy to fit. Also alloy ones would likely work out quite a bit more expensive as its quite a lot of engineer time on a lathe to make a set.

As for the solid top mounts again not a huge demand. Also they can lead to issues getting the bolts lined up if the shell isnt mm perfect to the original specs.

Welding brackets to the shell with the crossmember aleady in is easier. You can then leave the original top mount in place as extra security and it has the crush tube inside already.
