shaggy
Can anyone help with a problem? My Manta has 6 cyl 3.0 24v engine fitted and it seems to have a water problem, I have had it ticking over tonight for ages with the electric fan and the interior fan on to stop it overheating, the temp gauge is sitting up at the notch before the red but only seems to throw the water out when you stop it, I thought of the usual things like air lock, thermostat etc but the heater is blowing hot air okay and the thermostat has been removed,I thought possibly the impeller on the pump so I have replaced them pump also,it's not misfiring or anything it's seems to be running okay. the car is entered at a show in Ingliston at the weekend but it now seems doubtful, Anyone any ideas? I haven't pressure tested it head but I am hoping it's nit the head gasket but it seems it may well be, Any help is appreciated,Cheers Dave. Autocrosser
Must be something wrong Dave if it's getting that hot with no thermostat in. I wouldn't necessarily believe what the dash temp gauge tells you mind there not exactly reliable but it sounds like a head gasket to me. Is it using water? shaggy
Hi craig, no its not using water as a rule, I was wondering whether its a bleeding problem as when it chucks it out there seems to be a gurgling etc from the water bottle like air still in the system, Driving me mad. Andrew Findlay
Dave I had similar problem with my senny 24v. I have tried 3 different sealants before I was going replacing the head gasket. But I think the sealant has done the trick.Im off to ingliston on sunday hope to see you there. Andyf
Ems
My 1.8 did this when the head gasket went, there was no cross contamination between the water and oil but it kept on blowing the water out when I stopped

Rookie error, if like the CIH and most engines they do not stall the water flow like old thermostats, they have a big flat washer on the other end so when the stat opens one end the washer closes of passages at other end. The long and short of it is no stat means no guarantee water flows through the rad properly as it is free to recirculate around the block, hence worse. Some expensive stats used to have a hole in the flange and some had a lump of brass to plug it when water flowed. If there is no hole in the flange I add one to make sure air can get from behind stat when filling.
