Say what?

The issue with your steel sump is not it fitting the OHC and DOHC Opel engines. It will. It will not let you fit the engine to the Opel Manta, that is why you need the aluminium sump pictured in your link.

Some people good at welding and fabrication can modify the steel sump to fit, but this isn't that easy, so most people want to buy the aluminium one, ready to fit the Manta as a relatively easy engine conversion from front wheel drive (FWD) to rear wheel drive (RWD) cars.

The aluminium sump (and the steel one you have offered) will not fit the 1.9, 2.2 and 2.4 engines as these are CIH, only the D/OHC.

Of cource........!!! I was ref as an example that also aluminum oil pans existed for the 17 19 20 22 24 engines with no fit mods LIKE the photo

The 1.8 aluminum pan (or NEW type steel) fits only aluminum type engines

Note: The aluminium sump pictured in my link FITS THE OLD TYPE ENGINES 17 19 20 22 24

I personally think the alloy big wing sumps where designed and used to prevent or at least reduce the engine suffering from oil surge when used in RWD applications. I do not doubt that Opel sold this as a replacement for the alloy sump but I do very much doubt that it will work as well as the alloy one, if it did they wouldn't have bothered with the initial alloy design at all and they wouldn't have persisted with a variation of it on the Frontera.

From what I believe it cost retropower a great deal of money to get the alloy sumps reproduced and the price they charge for them reflects this BUT they do fit and the design is tried and tested, the difference in price will be quickly forgotten if the engine destroys itself due to oil starvation.

This is my personal opinion based on my own experience and not that of the club
