Manta 1.8 Hatch

I thought I would ask one last time. Does anyone have a decent Varajet II carb they want to sell? I'd even do a deal for the brand new 32/36 weber that is on the car right now??

PM if you are interested.

The car is booked into the rolling road on the 9th or march. Right now the car is jetted for a 2L pinto so would suit a Manta CIH.

Thanks

Hi Snowy, how are you finding it now its back to original? Always wondered for the future plans for my manta whether to red top it or not, not sure I like the standard manta engine, that said, I would like the power of the xe. Looks really good now its back to its original form. :)

It isn't entirely orginal. It has an 18SE cylinder head and an 18E cam shaft running with a 32/36 weber.

It is overfueling right now as the carb is for a 2L pinto. But rolling road day is on the 9th of march. I will be happy with 100 horse power.

Hopefully it will be fun to drive!!

I'm not sure i rate the XE engine. It is too peaky which doesn't make for a fun everyday car. Great for blasting around in yes. I'd go for the C20NE/20SEH or the ecotec. The ecotec is much more drivable in the lower rev range than the XE. But this is what is was designed for, the XE was a race engine put in road cars. The ecotec was designed to be in a road car.

Good luck with what ever you do.

Hi Snowy, interested about the red top being a race engine and I love the sound of that but don't know yet, my cih has nice and healthy still :) I find that mine has enough power as it is sometimes, mines a gt/e so has 110 bhp standard and unless you are a very good skilled driver you cant keep it pegged at 110 for long lol on british roads, motorway exception. They handle like a dream though since they are fairly light and they are pouring character for every panel. As for now the cih will be fine :)

Well the car went on the rolling road today. I'm quite happy with the results but the operator wouldn't take it above 5000rpm due to the unknown history of the bottom end.

Standard 18S

BHP = 90 @ 5400rpm

Torque = 138Nm @ 3000 to 3400

Modified 18S - Standard bottom end fitted with an 18SE cylinder head and an E camshaft running a 32/36 DGV weber

BHP = 101 @ 5000rpm

Torque = 154Nm @ 3100

The car drives very nicely. It does pull quite well, a lot better than I remember an 1800 being.
