john man
Hi, I would say this has been asked numerous times. Is there any modification to the manta gearbox tunnel to fit the r25 gearbox. Or does the gear level hole need to be modified? Plan is to fit a c20xe also? Cheers John
Jessopia74
It’s a little tighter, but fits. The selector needs a slight mid to get into exact same position, but easy done with basic cutting/welding skills. And fabricate a mounting. From my memory it helps if you can drop engine a little too, think it’s escort mounts. If hydraulic slave used, needs a spacer inside box, they are about on the net still. Pics are my R28 mounted to SAABB234 lump, for mockup, but it’s an XE sump pan (for mk2 escort, but fits), but was mounted in XE at first.

®evo03
V6 Omega? 😎 Jess, does Escort XE sump fit B234, no mods? Was R25 used for V6 What's was R28 used in? I have two V6s and a Rbox for free, must take a day and investigate.

No the sump is not a direct fit mate, it is close enough to use as a starting point. Mine is a work in progress, but you would need a steel gasket profile for the SAAB bottom, think they are on eBay still along with the water outlet adapters etc
john man
Hi @Jessopia74 Would you know what clutch kit combination is needed? Can I stick with the c20xe or do I need to get a omega disk with the c20xe pressure plate. Also the spacer needed for the slave cylinder do you know the size? This is my clutch on the engine, I presume this is a flat type, I hear people talk about.
Jessopia74
You will need a flat type flywheel. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285594003256 Clutch is for the early type
®evo03
Johnman, if you search Saab Turbo on here, think there was a few knocking about or engine code B234.
john man
Hi @Jessopia74 / @®evo03 Thanks for the info. @Jessopia74 when you say early type clutch, would it be somthing like this, an early type clutch kit for a C20Xe. I pressume these flat flywheels came in the early C20XE. https://www.aemotorsport.co.uk/shop/luk-3pc-clutch-kit-for-vauxhall-calibra-cavalier-c20xe-early-flat-type-flywheel/
gt4_ade
r25 box 2.5/6 v6, r28 box 3.0 r30 box 3.2 all boxes stamped as r25-28 pretty sure from memory you need an xe pressure plate with turbo friction plate
gt4_ade
imo the best box to use nowadays is the 5 speed bmw zf box given that omega boxes are getting harder to come by, one from a 330d is super strong and also fir into the tunnel without mods

Slips on ? Front part of prop, is that it ? Are they cable or hydraulic?

john man
Thanks @gt4_ade for the info. Pick up a v6 omega box the other day. Sorted a flat fly wheel, just need to sort a clutch and the spacer for the slave cylinder.
