JonnyD
I think I need to replace the front windscreen seal as it is maybe leaking at the bottom corner above the glove box area. no seals on uk sites that I can locate, but I can find the seal on mantadany but do I also need to replace what looks like called ‘’keder” - to me the trim insert?? https://www.mantadany.shop/p/scheibenkeder-keder-opel-manta-b-ascona-b cheers for any advice
Sutty2006
You don’t have to, but it’s recommended if yours has shortened over time. I bought some of that from uk eBay for a Carlton a few years back so it’s still available 👍 1
Jonathan Pounsett
I thought it was purely decorative but it does put a curve into the rubber creating a tighter seal against the glass on one edge and the bodywork on the other.
cam.in.head
maybee were getting mixed up here with 'seal' and trim filler strip. ? the 'seal' / rubber part may well be letting water in due to hardened sealer or ( most likely) rust in the aperture in the corners usually. there wont be many now with our type of windows that arnt rusty there by now. different with modern cars that have fully bonded glass which theoretically should stay water tight ( and less likely to rust) the trim piece that goes in afterwards can help to push the rubber tighter slightly but i still woudnt rely on it rather than the correct sealant. ( non setting window sealant ,not glue or any form of silicone !) the reccomended fit is with a bead of sealant in the aperture first but i always do the outer lip too afterwards. try to confirm the leak area and then try lifting the rubber and having a good peek and poke .if you dont find any holes then thats brilliant and just needs all the old sealant (which will be all crumbly ) getting out and resealing. if you are able it would be better to whip the window out and clean everything up seperately realy .the hardest part then i find is getting the trim strim back in without breaking it especially if its the original as they go brittle.
