cam.in.head
highly unlikely but if you remove the fuel pump check that the lobe is not worn down on the lower distributor shaft . on a standard setup with a varijet you shouldn't need any more pressure than the std mechanical pump gives do don't see any need to go electric ! Kr1s
Update for this weekend - the higher priority of the leaking brake fluid has trumped the fuelling investigation, on the subject of which though, can anyone give any details of the different thickness of gaskets used on the fuel pump? I recall being a little concerned that the one I removed was thicker than the one provided with my new pump when I changed it. Maybe there's a problem there - hopefully it hasn't caused me to ruin the drive mentioned above. Yesterday I removed the master cylinder and servo and cleaned up the leaked fluid as best I could. As had been suggested, there is a sign of corrosion on the bottom edge - I'm hoping it's not too far gone though.Project images are available to Club Members Only, Click to become an OMOC Member. One slight hiccup was that I broke the wires off the reservoir cap when I removed it from the master cylinder, but they were only hanging by a single strand before. I'll look at whether I can fix that at work or look for a new cap. I've now just got to decide between fitting a new seal kit (assuming I can source one) or send the cylinder to Past Parts. Family demands on my time are making the latter look attractive.
Kr1s
Ok, I got the master cylinder apart and cleaned up. I think the main bore may be ok, but will take it to work and get the mechanical engineers to inspect it. The outer end of the primary piston shaft looks pretty bad though, and the internal cylinder bore where it's bigger at the outer end and the outer seals locate is also not great.Project images are available to Club Members Only, Click to become an OMOC Member. Jessopia74
looks like its had a bit of moisture sat in there sadly. Are seal seats OK or pitted ? That is the issue with old brake fluid, as its hygroscopic, over the years a quite a bit of water is accumulated and can eventually settle low.

I don't know whether the brown rough bits are putting, or whether it's something that will clean off. It doesn't clean off with kitchen scourer (non metallic) and any advice on how aggressive I can be (wire wool, fine wet & dry?) would be much appreciated. Jessopia74
any pitting is not great, this is likely in need of a professional refurbishment when they can hone the bore and make sure it’s still within tolerance. Im all for doing as much as you can yourself, but this might need you to acknowledge the necessity to send to a co.
