Although the car just went through and passed an mot. whats the easiest way to adjust these? and any guidelines on how to set them? Pull the drum off and have a look, I'd recon on the handbrake lever pivot being seized. Excessive pedal travel and handbrake touching the headcloth would indicate the brakes need adjusted? A-series or B........or Rover 25!? John.
mantadoc
First off look at the rear of the backplates to see if there are large (18 or 19mm?) hexagonal heads on the back plates at the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock positions, if there are you have manual adjusters that do require periodic adjustment, if not you have auto adjusters. rutts
if you go to halfords you can buy the new auto adjusters on the brake parts shelf. make sure the drum has no big lip on inside then you can set them up easier by manually adjusting to near perfect then let auto adjuster do its job. check hand brake cable also for splitting and sticking in the plastic guides.
