Co2 Emissions

hello lads i need a co2 readout for a 2l manta coupe its co2 per kilometer in grammes can anyone help me thanks

Any MOT station should be able to do that for you - could I ask why you want it? It's not part of the test for cars of this age, nor does it affect your taxation status. I've often thought of having it done just for interest on mine. I think these engines, properly tuned, are pretty low CO2 emitters. And it's all ******s anyway, if you're worried about the planet.

im in ireland and i need a co2 emissins for the vrt the revenue are tryin to screw me on import tax there charging me 720 euro to import the car from england and if i can get a co2 reading it will be cheaper but because they dont have a reading for the manta there putting the car in the highest bracket of import duty

just been talkin to a few of the lads on to and there doesnt seem to be a reading ever taken for a manta im just trying to make the people see sense over here they have a emissions reading for a 2.0l hatch and the duty is 560 but they dont have one for the coupe which is the same engine and there coming up with 720 euro for the coupe only on the basis that they dont have a readout for the coupe even though its the same engine ??

Here, here. It's nice to know that other people can recognise propaganda.

The answer is either 0 or N/A as there won't be a CO2 reading for your manta. Although there will be a trace atmospheric amount, CO2 is irrelevant on a vehicle not fitted with a catalytic converter, it'll produce CO (carbon monoxide) which needs to be lower than 3 or 3.5% parts per volume to meet UK emissions, vehicles produced after 1997 the CO limit is tiny. A catalytic converter oxidises carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide (2CO+O2=2CO2) as mantas don't have a cat, you won't be able to claim a CO2 level, but surely there are Irish import duties set for classic cars or pre catalyst vehicles?!?

iv recieved a formula from a goverment department to work out co2 and is as follows co2 emissions =fuel consumpion x 23.20 opel states the manta uses 5.9l per 90km and 7.6 per 120km so i need per 100km for this to work so in both cases its 0.06l per 1 km so 100km is 6l per 100km so now 6.0l x 23.20 ==139 co2 emissions on a manta

Good grief!

Seem to remember someone on this forum having a CO2 test done "just for fun" during their MOT, which was why I said an MOT station could do it. But of course CO, rather than CO2 is what's tested in Great Britain on cars of this age. Rick, I thought the CO limit was 4.5%, not 3.5% for MOT? The cars, when new, were supposed to be set on 1.5-2.5% CO if memory serves me correctly. As age catches up with them, I like to have 'em at the upper level, or even up to 3%, depending on the car. My mate has one running at 0.75% CO, which is WAY too lean in my opinion.

Good luck with the import.

PS Do you work out fuel consumption at steady 30 mph, 50 mph, urban cycle, or "simulated mixed road conditions"? It's all a farce, ain't it? My 2 litre saloon gets about 29 mpg on a run and a figure too embarrassing to mention round town - that's with a Weber carb.

No, there wouldn't be a CO2 reading for Mantas. The youngest is over 20 years old, and this CO2 emissions business is a modern bit of stuff and nonsense, all part of Green Party Ecoporn. The cars were tuned on CO reading. MOT gives you a hydrocarbons emission and the lambda reading these days. Nothing else much would have been relevant to the cars when new. Like I said to begin with, a friendly MOT station might give you a CO2 reading using their emissions testing machine if you ask nicely.

Good luck with the appeal.
