Arkade
I'm in need of a new fuel filter (one in the fuel tank) for my manta A. Anyone got one? Also,I think my current fuel tank is full of all sorts of horribleness that's built up over the years. I have the option to get it steamed cleaned but wanted to see if anyone knew of where i might be able to get a new or very good conditioned one? Cheers Edited July 12, 2012 by Arkade
Arkade
Actually, I think they might belong to a manta B as it had an engine convo...? Edited July 12, 2012 by Arkade
611
Where is the tank? in the boot behind the back seat or under the boot floor? Andy

Beaker
The only filter in the tank is a piece of wire gauze on the end of the pipe, which is integral with the fuel gauge sender unit. Adding an inexpensive plastic fuel filter up by the carburettor can save a lot of problems caused by rust flakes lurking at the bottom of the tank. 611
Not sure how easy you will find it to get a good second hand one. It might be worth dropping the tank and seeing what yours is like first? Its just the strap and fuel filler hose that holds them on. Make sure you get as much fuel out as you possibly can before taking it off as even with a small bit in the bottom it make them quite heavy :-) Then you can see if you need to replace it or not. Arkade
Thanks for the advice guys. It's the of wire gauze on the end of the pipe that I need a replacement for! Mine was a bit rusty and clogged up, causing the fuel pump to whine and the car to cut out when putting it under load (second gear or above). Took it off and the car ran smoothly until some of the crap from the fuel tank made it to the fuel pump :s
611
A lot of the new in-tank fuel pumps have a little plastic filter fitted to them so maybe you could see if one of those might be something you could fit on yours?
OPEL PARTS GREECE
you have to have both filter and pre filter then so you will not cause problem to the fuel pump or the injectors
Arkade
Can anyone advise me if this part will work? http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/VAUXHALL_FUEL_TANK_UNIT_-_90158245.html It's the original A tank and the broken part that was previously in there would have been for the A as one of the parts was cork instead of plastic (you don't see that everyday However, it's had a Manta b 2.0 conversion, so I'm thinking it could work? OPEL PARTS GREECE
If you had this sender 15Euros has the filter as spare..... Arkade
Sorry, I don't fully understand. Do you mean that only by modifying the part, it will work? Thanks
611
I think the angle of the tube on the B series one is different and the float level might be wrong, im not 100% certain of the difference as not seen the B, but they have the tank in the boot behind the seat so im sure it wont be the same. Are you after the whole tank sender unit? Andy
Arkade
Yeah! The one I've got is so old and mucked up that its restricting fuel to the engine. So my options are either to try and get a new one, clean up the old one or add a pre filter before the fuel pump. I have the same problem with the tank itself which I can either try and steam clean or try and get a new one...
611
I dont think you will find a new tank or a sender unit. If the unit works ok how about cutting off the old filter and then fitting a strainer to the pipe? i did a quick google and there do seem to be quite a few push on ones. You could get the tank cleaned if its solid on the outside (http://www.fueltanks.co.uk/pages/renu.html) http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/GM_fuel_sending_unit_filter_sock_3_8_.jpeg Andy

Arkade
JC81 - did offer me a "mint tank" for an A for £150, but without being able to supply pics. I was a bit dubious with him being a new user and had to decline in the end. In theory, it could be quite easy to fraudulently sell items online. Does anyone know if the site has had any trouble with this in the past?
spiney_norman
Yes we have unfortunately. There was a member called Landyloon a couple of years ago who took a lot of money from people on this site and never came up with any goods, and more recently there was another whose name I can't remember who claimed to have a lot of parts available (including skyhooks for the front struts on an Impreza!) but luckily nobody parted with any money. Arkade
I'm glad I did not buy in the end and would advise anyone contacted by the member JC81 (Jim Cooke) to ensure they are confident of the sale before they purchase. I don't know if Jim is a scam artist for sure and apologie if he is genuine. However, if you are selling items, evidence of the part needs to be provided as standard. @611 - what search did you do for the "strainer"? http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/data/500/GM_fuel_sending_unit_filter_sock_3_8_.jpeg as if I can get a replacement, I believe it will sort my problem as mine is pretty corroded... 611
I just did a search for intank fuel strainer and set google to images as its good at picking up images on forums, think that was a Merc forumi found that on. i think Webcon do this one http://www.theopelproject.com/?attachment_id=450 Might be worth a look on ebay.de for a tank? use google chrome and it will translate for you :-) I usually make sure if i buy anything that i pay with Pay Pal as it give you a bit more security as they stop any funds the user has if you raise a problem, its saved me in the past :-) I hope the above helps Andy
