611
Im in need of a bit of advise on alternator size please. i have a 61ah battery and im looking to get a new alternator but dont know what size to go with? The car is an A series, full fuel injection (distributor less) with electric fuel pump, twin fans, bmw lights that will run on sides when engine on, stereo with big ish speakers, a fuel gagues and then that's about it on the electric side. Will 55 a alternator be too small? do i need to go 65a. Can find any info on my old lucas one as to what that is? thanks Andy
rutts
give gm6 Monza spares a ring he may have a bracket and alternator to fit your engine off a Monza 3.0. more power will easily do for your application.
MANTAMAN
Monza/Carlton/Senator 6 cylinder,12 valve alternators will fit with the bracket off that engine, these alternators are 95 amp, which with all the 'gear' your running you'll need. 611
Hey thanks for the info. I did a quick google and the one i have looks like it might have been off a senator. Would it be better to get that refurbished? Andy
MANTAMAN
cant remember if it fits the original Manta bracket, better to have the 6 cylinder bracket, it's got more bracing and a screw threaded tensioner, if it will go on try it, might not need any refurbishment
Jason b
Depending on how practical you are, it isn't hard to make a bracket to fit any alternator you'd like. I decided it would be nice to have more overhead and have fitted a 100A alternator out of a brand new corsa to my 30NE engine and it only cost £30 off of a rear end shunted one from the local breakers. The other bonus with bosch is that it is simple to replace the rectifier pack on the back in a matter of seconds and you can carry a spare in the glove box. With the right brackets the 6cyl 12v ones ought to work, however be sure to check carefully as they aren't all 90A (some are 70 iirc) - also some mount to the opposite side of the engine, not to mention the pulleys are poly-vee on certain senators.
