Robert1234
My oil pressure gauge is flicking to maximum and now and again it'll go back to midway then flick back up, I've been told this can be resolved by cleaning out the pressure sender as sometimes it gets clogged up. Is this right? If so where is the sender? Thanks Rob
HutchRoslin
I have an aftermarket gauge and if the earth is taken off it reads off the scale, maybe a bad earth on the gauge?
cam.in.head
this is usually caused by a loose wire on the sender unit.1 wire operates the oil light.1 wire operates the guage.sender unit is under the exhaust manifold at the side of the engine near the back. (on a cam in head engine) fiddly to get at .you may find that a good press on the terminals may do the trick because to replace the leads can be very awkward.(one is on a spade but the other is on a 8mm lug)
Robert1234
UPDATE! I had a go at sorting this today only to find that the two wires weren't connected to anything! I cant see the sender at all, what does it actually look like and can anyone tell me exactly where it is, i dont really want to have to take manifolds off at this time of year! Thanks Rob
spiney_norman
On that picture it's the red cylindrical bit sticking out of the side of the block near the back. It may not look exactly like that, but that's exactly where it will be Edited December 22, 2013 by spiney_norman
Shug
That red one was replaced with one off a 1.6 as the exhaust was too close to it otherwise.
spiney_norman
When I found that on Google I thought the address looked like it probably belonged to you Shug!
cam.in.head
best & easiest way is to leave the old one where it is & fit a new one instead of the blanking plug in the timing case above the oil filter.usually very tight to get the plug out but much easier to work on afterwards
