Ems
How do you get the bearing out of the metal case? Thanks
paulmanta
Take the metal case containing the bearing out of the rubber donut, then take the case to the bench, clean the crud from the case and you will see it is actually two halves, get a flat screwdriver or two and gently pry the two halves apart. Bearing is readily available and is cheap. its not special and a bearing shop ought to have it on the shelf for a couple of quid a go. I normally buy timkin ones, they seem to be good. Ems
I've tried prying the two halves apart, but nothing happens other than damaging the metal case.
611
They do come apart but can be a bit of a bugger if they have been in there for a while. maybe a soak in some WD40 and then get a very flat but strong blade and just work round the whole edge tapping until you get some movement. Took me a while to get mine apart. You need quite a bit of patience :-) but they do come apart. maybe warm it up a bit? Andy
paulmanta
I think that perhaps my method of cleaning the outer case might make it easier to remove it. I use a rotary wire brush on a bench grinder to clean it all and while doing this the case does get quite hot, I wonder if that loosens the grip a little and helps me to remove the halves. I have never had one that was too difficult, maybe try to part the halves with a scraper first, something wider than a flat screwdriver. Once it starts it is very easy. Ems
What waterproof grease should I use to protect the torque tube bearing?
