Hi all I have Been told recently that the dvla are extending the historic vehicle tax exemption to cars produced in 73? This brings my a series into the historic vehicle band, does anyone know what the procedure is to apply?

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated, I have popped to the heritage museum at gaydon and they couldn't shed any light

Cheers all

Lee

As far as I was aware the only way a 73 registered car could currently be tax exempt is if it was manufactured in 72. But I believe this is due to change to 73 this year in April.

My car is registered sep 73 I haven't checked the manufactured date yet

Cheers

DVLA wont be much help.

Drop Steve 1900SR an email with chassis number as he has a list from vauxhall of when they were manufactured and you will need to prove to DVLA that it was manufactured before Jan 1974 as it use to be before jan 1973 and as Shug said the old DVLA wont be looking up cars and doing it for you! you have to do it for them :-)

And i think its from the end of this april that it starts but not 100% certain.

There was talk of the exemption being increased anyway as the tax system is changing. Last I heard it's 1st October, so we wont have tax discs in the window, you never buy and sell a car with tax anymore and I think it's tied in with your insurance, so anyone insuring their car will have to pay for the equivalent to the road fund licence at the same time. Prior to Labour scrapping it in 1998, it used to be a rolling 25 years and a few MPs I knew were pushing to have this bought back with the new government but I wouldn't hold your breath.
