611
Hi Pete i have this one if your interested. It a genuine GM one, but has a couple of bits that need addressing. Its had a bump on the top and reeds a bit of love and the previous owner removed the bumper mount. But apart from that its in very good condition as only has slight surface rust and with a bead blast and a but of love it will be a good wing. i have not done this myself as i dont need it as a spare and wanted any buyer to see how it is. If it was %100 you would be looking at easily £150+ for it with the surface rust. if you can find a new one they are £250+ these days and the pattern ones take a lot to get them to fit. So i would be looking at £80 for it if your interested. more pictures here. http://www.theopelproject.com/?page_id=94 Andy Edited December 17, 2014 by
611
Pete, a quick google on german ebay and there are a few on there. For about 90euro right up to 275euro! http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_odkw=opel+manta+panels&_from=R40%7CR40%7CR40&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xopel+manta+Fl%C3%BCgel&_nkw=opel+manta+Fl%C3%BCgel&_sacat=0 Andy
611
M&M Dronten price on ebay and not original http://www.ebay.de/itm/Kotflugel-links-Opel-Manta-A-neu-nachfertigung-1101080-/231261450466?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item35d841b0e2
Peter Teed
Hi Andy, thanks very much for your efforts ,I have seen those ebay and Dronten adds but although I have tried to contact them I have had no replies. Am very keen regards your own guard,do you have any idea about an all up cost to melbourne australia, post code 3156,I guess packing would be the difficulty both from the point of view of weight and protection from damage but if you feel that it could be packed and shipped effectively I would seriously consider having yours sent out if agreeable. Will wait to see what you have to say regards shipping. Many thanks and bbest wishes for the christmas season,Pete.
Peter Teed
Hi all,on the search for more information, can anyone tell me if there is a roof skin from another model car (hopefully available here in Aus) that is close enough to be suitable for the Manta A. At one time mine had a vinyl roof but it was removed long ago, unfortunately the condition of the roof was not dealt with properly but had a thick coat of spray putty put over it then painted, now as I am stripping the body all these issues are becomming apparent. If I cant re-skin it with something it is going to look like a patchwork quilt and again it will have to be covered with a layer of poly spray putty.Any help much appreciated,as always.Pete
Peter Teed
Started stripping the crud of a few panels, would you believe dents and about 6mm depth of spray putty in places. Everywhere that there were cracks in the surface of the panel there was deep spray putty and rust underneath, poor prep and previous application I would suggest! Still chasing the elusive guard! Regards Pete.

Peter Teed
Hi there,so,I have a couple of guards sorted for the left hand side, might have to try and get one for the right hand side as well so I have a complete set if necessary, also a few other little bits and pieces. As there has been no comment,I assume that there is not really an alternate roof skin that can be used with reasonable success to replace an original rusty roof top so may have to go the patchwork option as I haven't found a sunroof/ragtop roof big enough to suit my needs.Found some rust in the goosenecks that will have to be dealt with but thats in the "later" box,a little bit of other stuff to finish yet.Am really keen to get a bit of a move on with this but have another project sitting in the carport that I have to deal with also, probably not of much interest to most people here but a 1956 Morris Minor utility with a custom step side type rear pickup bed,a toyota 1.3ltr engine and 4spd box and a not done yet custom interior of sorts PLUS a 1960 2 door Morris Minor sedan that is being chopped into a convertible with the same toyota running gear and a few other bits and pieces but it is not started yet and the Manta is way more important. H-400
This is a guide to glue a new vinyl on a Manta: http://www.autozeitung.de/classic-cars/ratgeber-oldtimer-vinyldach-erneuern-opel-manta?panorama=1 (it is in German) And found this: http://shop.ps-autoteile.de/vinyldach_schwarz_115005_p.dpage Edited February 8, 2015 by H-
Peter Teed
Problem with putting a new vinyl roof on is 2 fold! As the rust has already gone through the roof in several places it really needs to be dealt with and secondly,I wouldn't dare do to someone else what they have apparently done here by removing the vinyl, covering the roof in high build spray putty and then painting a top coat leaving all the issues under the putty, I will not tolerate rust! x-pat mike
i would think a chevy vega roof would be similar but there would not be one that would be really close i dont think, maybe sections off a b series might do or ascona ,
Peter Teed
All good ideas except that basically they dont exist here and Im not going to try and ship a roof skin in. Have had an unpleasant outcome with the guard I purchased from O/S,although told that it was in "good" condition (guess my definition of good is different to his), it turns out that this is not the case and really,in many ways it is only marginally better than what I have. The rear edge that meets the door is rusted, cracked and bent, there is a rust hole through the panel where it looks like a side light was fitted, the lip of the guard is rusted and a piece missing,a dent accross the bodyline crease up near the headlight area and the upper rear corner where the bolt goes through to the body behind the upper front door edge is bent out of shape. I have got another one organised hopefully and Im crossing every finger that it will be much better as this episode has done a bit of damage to my current budget and its not over yet.I may just walk away from it for a while and do some work on my other projects while I refresh my focus! Anyway, guess these are the perils of old cars and ordering parts from overseas.Regards to all,Pete.
