Exhibiting at the NEC Classic Car Show (and the PC Restoration Show)

With the NEC Classic motor show coming up in November, have you ever thought about putting your car on display at this prestigious show? It is open to any club member with a Manta. For the Restoration show in March, it doesn't even have to be nice and shiny - Barn finds are always more interesting than concours models anyway (see the photo of the Blue Manta B below - complete with authentic barn crud).

We have been exhibiting at the main November show since 1993 as the highlight of the Midlands area calendar but as it is such a big show, we are always looking for volunteers from all over the country.

The Classic Motor show usually runs over the second weekend in November and is held at the National Exhibition Centre, south of Birmingham. The show runs for 3 days - Friday to Sunday, with set-up on the Thursday. You must be able to commit to taking you car on the Thursday afternoon, and be present for 2 out of the 3 show days (1 being the last day so you can drive the car home afterwards). The same applies for the Practical Classics Restoration show, which runs in early March each year.

We currently have a list of cars that have been offered for these events, and we always try and pick a good selection so that we can show people what the OMOC is all about. If you scrub up well, are good at talking to members of the public and have a nice  Manta, perhaps it would be a good experience? For the Resto show - we have had several part restored cars on the stand, and these offer a great opportunity to show people around the cars and what work is involved in restoring one.

We have had members join us from Scotland, Cornwall, Wales, North West, Lincs, Yorks and even the USA! It is a big committment as you may need accomodation but we always help with those arrangements too. Traditionally, we go out for a slap up meal on Saturday night, and we have made many new friends through this event.

If you are interested, please reach out to Simon Peckham or myself and we can take your details down. Note - we are provisionally sorted for cars for this years show, but we always need a reserve list in case anyone has to pull out.

Some Random photos from the last 30 years at the NEC. We really have had some amazing cars on the stand and some lovely people, sadly a few have left us since but we have really fond memories of these weekends.

Is it the same cars, people, reps every year?

Different cars every year, as hopefully the photos in the first post show. I think a lot of the volunteers to man the stand are the same every year, plus usually the owners of the cars that are on display, but I would guess that any offers to help man the stand would be gratefully received.

Quite the opposite really. We always try to have different cars on the stand every year. The owners of the cars are always on hand too, as Steve says, so we have different folks helping out each year too. Of course there is a core team that organise it each year and arrange the carpet, gazebo, stand material and do all the paperwork. The purpose of my post was to ask people to reach out if they want to get involved.

Yeah sorry - the above post was put up a few weeks before the 2023 show, so didnt have any recent shots included, for obvious reasons, (lack of time machine etc 🙂 ). The 2023 show was last weekend so here are a few more pics of the club stand this year. I will be putting a video together as soon as a get a chance.
