Ems
I've just re-fitted the gearbox to my Manta. With the engine off the first problem is that the gear lever doesn't return the centre. If you pull the lever to the left it stays there, if you pull the lever to the right it goes back to the centre slowly. It also takes a lot of effort to select all the gears, with reverse, 1st and 2nd needing a lot of force. It's fitted with a Retro Power quick shift kit, this was working ok before the gearbox was removed. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to check? Thank you. Sutty2006
Start at the beginning. Raise the back wheels off the floor and doing the wheels in neutral then in gear. If that doesn’t help it out you’re going to need to drop the box down. Drop the box down at the back off the mounts and see if it frees up any. If not, you’re going to need to pull the box out and check that linkage is ok. Check nothing is fouling the linkage.
Ems
Thanks for replying, forgot to mention the back wheel were off the ground at the time. I had a look at the linkage while my son put the car into various gears, it didn't look like it was fouling on anything.
Jessopia74
Sounds like it’s taken a hit going back in? So might be misaligned slightly that’s -urging load on the shaft. Perhaps get the cover popped up and see if you can slacken the bolts off on the selector bracket and see if that help
