silverfox
Progress is slow but i'm getting there slowly. I've removed the prop shaft and the gearbox and some of the front suspension. Some of the bolts are proving a little difficult to remove as they have been on there for 20 years. My next move is to remove the engine the rest of the front suspension and then the rear end. All the suspension parts front and rear are going to be cleaned up and painted black. The gearbox is going to be cleaned to reveal the cast alloy colour. I will be putting in new brake and fuel lines. All this wiil be done once i have welded the floor. I'm not to down hearted yet but there is a long way to go.[8D]
silverfox
Just a quick update on things. I have stripped all the sound deadening material from inside and part of the floor fell out so i have a nice large hole now. I have examined the jacking points and they need replacing and some of the chassis rails need attention. I can't wait to get the engine out and tackle all the bad bad rust out. The floor on the passenger side just needs patching up in places. It's better to find all these things out now and not when i think i'm ready to apply the paint. I am thinking of using either 3"x2" or 4"x2" box section metal in place of the jacking points. Anybody any thoughts on this![^]

Guest
A few people have posted on here about replacing the jacking points with box section without any problems. OMOC 5885 refitting is the reverse of removal
silverfox
A productive day today. Took the engine out and it was easier than i thought. I've also given the engine bay a jet wash to get rid of 19 years worth of muck and oil. A few more things to remove before i start cutting the floor and putting in the new floor bits thats needed. At the moment the floor looks like something out of the flintstones. Yabba Dabba Doo[]
Mlocke666
I fitted 2 x 2 inch box section for jacking points, not had any problems but the car aint been on the road for over 3 years. As long as the welding strong then cant see a problem with it. silverfox
I took of the subframe yesterday and boy what a difference a good 22mm socket makes and a long bar for leverage. I started stripping all the arms and ball joints for painting and replacing. I took the passenger side coil spring out and it had snapped a couple of coils from the top. Just having some difficulty removing some of the bolts as they have been in there for an eternity. The chassis rails around the bulkhead where it goes upto the inner wing area are a bit worse than i thought but never mind. []

Guest
That looks a neat job. Well done. There's nothing like getting rid of some of the rust and seeing nice strong new metal to help you on your way. Can I recommend you try these folks for your rust protection products (especially the Hydrate 80 and Dynax S50): http://www.bilthamber.com I think it's the best stuff there is available today (and the amount of plugs I give them, they ought to pay me commission). Cheers, Joe. Please remember to log in to this site from the home page. It helps it to be first on the list when you type in 'Manta' in search engines, and there's some good stuff on there too. gunman
yes, very neat, what are you intending doing with the underside? I tried to do all my welding neatly as I was painting it, same idea? If what I say can be taken in 2 ways and one of those ways get you angry....I meant it the other way
silverfox
Well it's been a long time since i've touched the car (nearly 2 years) which has been hard as i've been helping other people out with different things. After tomorrow i will have finished helping out and i will be concentrating on getting all the welding, panel replacing and priming done as the longer it goes untouched the harder it is to start on it. I want a ar that i can go to the car shows in and feel a proper part of the OMOC.
