plumster
Hi guys (n gals) removal of hatch fuel tank, is it a big job? Sportshatch, so no injection or any of that silly new fangled nonsense There's nowt wrong with it, just thought if the job ain't too giddy I might whip the rascal out & give the tank & the whole area a good old tart up. What do you reckon?
Andy18s
Easy enough, but be prepared for Stubborn bolts on the straps Easing the rubber plug from around the filler neck, and being horrified/smug (delete as applies) about the rust under the plug Put a rag in the filler to stop any debris falling in as you move it about Have a jack with a sheet of ply or something on it to help with putting it back in! opel2000
A Job well worth doing Sam. When refitting put some rubber between the tank and the straps, i.e bike inner tube, personally i'd bond it to the straps to make re-fittng a bit easier. plumster
reet chaps, thanks for that , I will get me ead under while shes up in the air & have a peek at the strap bolts. are there any wire'y bits that I need to keep me eye open for? I can't believe I have actually started to get my hands dirty again on this car, I'm so glad I looked after for all those years.
Andy18s
Only the fuel gauge sender, and thats easy enough. Be careful around the various breather pipes on both the tank and filler neck. They aren't the strongest bits of metal to start with and with a few years of weathering they could be a bit fragile. plumster
Thanks Andy & Clive, I feel a photo session coming on, but better put the front end back together first..
Exclusive Opel
I added some silicon rubber strips to my straps before refitting as I had some handy. Just kept it clear of what I presume were drainage holes. I did need to add some thin spacers between the strap and body to allow for the extra thickness of the rubber strip. I notice on my Astra, there is some rubber strips between the straps and tank so there must be something in it.
