Has anyone made a roll over spit for a manta hatch? If so where did you mount the rear of the car. I'm putting one together at the moment and found the rear panel ain't strong enough to use the rear bumper mounts. I been looking at trying to get a brace down to the rear chassis legs but there's no easy mounting points

Never had a problem just using the 2 middle bumper mounts on the rear of coupe or hatch.

As long as the rear panel is attached to the 1/4s (and not rotten up the seams) and the shell is stripped bare it should be fine.

You can reach around the corners and use the bumper mounts on the quarter panels on the coupe, but they're different mounts on the hatch

And me! My shell is mounted off the rear panel. You have to make up some spacers or use washers to prevent the bar crushing the strengthener ribs in the panel. Also I made up some metals plates to go on the inside to spread the load. The boot lid fitted perfectly before and after it was on the spit so it isn't pulling the panel. As mantasrme says, there ain't a massive amount of weight in the bare shell.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've got a 2" by 1" length of box just like the pics and the panel is rot free so thats not the issue. I used a couple of M10 bolts with a couple of big washers just like the way the bumper bolts on.

Stradacab your post has just made me realise my mistake though - you mentioned you have a coupe of plates on the inside. That must mean when you tighten the bolts the plates actually sandwich the inner and outer rear panels. The way I tried its only the outer panel taking the weight.

Doh, couple of longer bolts and few dirty big plates required tomorrow.

Thanks for the help!

Here's my current spit mounted to a hatch

The cross bar is spaced out from the back panel with washers and a larger m12 nut to get the bar away from the curved back panel

Inside is just a washer and nut

You can get a little flex in the panel just around the hole when mounting onto the spit but when you take it off it returns to the original shape
