taylorblue5
Hi folks. Recently sold my exclusive coupe and bought another coupe and an Ascona to put back on the road. Both are rust free which makes me happy. Some pics. The Damage has since been pulled out as much as possible. The seller kindly included all parts needed to sort the car but im trying to keep as much as possible oft the original panels. I didnt have a matching interior so i put my interior in from the Manta so will be needing a set of grey Recaros in the near future. Its got a c20seh engine fitted that im planning on turbocharging to see whats possible. And the Manta. I need some headlining pieces for the A pillar as can be seen in the above pics if anyone can help? Clean rust free engine bay apart from a lovely hole under the battery tray, good excuse for get the welder out. it had an x20xev engine fitted so has the 16v conversion parts. it has been removed and a c20let will be finding a new home inside with Omega box and evo 9 turbocharger to keep things "interesting" lol.

taylorblue5
Hi Brian, yes i got all the panels for it included in the sale but most of the damage seems to be repairable as it stands. New interior sounds good, non damaged seats are hard to come by and im not afraid of a bit of dirt lol.
taylorblue5
The Manta has been for sale for years but the bodykit must have put people off, its in great condition though.
Retro Power
Good to see progress on the old ascona!! Glad it's going well! She's a bit rough round the edges but not many as solid (or as few owners lol!)
taylorblue5
I cant believe how solid she is, think we would all rather have an originally sound car than one thats had a resto. The inner wing has all pulled out, so its only really the corner section of the top rail and front panel. Would rather keep as much of the original car as possible and keep the replacement panels as spares or sell them to fund the rebuild n buy some more nice parts for it. Cant wait to get it painted and back on the road, the engine fired straight up with a set of plugs.
taylorblue5
Done some photoshop work to show what the Ascona will look like when done.
Retro Power
Lol the engine's as tough as an ox!! Those seh's are great old things, just seem to keep on going with a head gasket now and then! Glad to hear all is well!
taylorblue5
I know it seems to be a solid lump! Was it fast when you guys ran it? Iv not had a chance to drive it as a wishbones only just been sourced lol.
MANTAMAN
Many years ago 'we' pulled a Manta GTE hatch out of a garage near me that hadn't moved for nine years ! blew up the tyres, checked the fluids etc, gallon of fresh fuel but had to resort to towing behind a Citroen Xantia, at first orange smoke came out of the exhaust which we decided was the rust from the cylinder bores !! then clouds of black smoke but after a quarter of a mile it started, a few minutes later if settled down and it drove normally, just as if it had only been turned off the day before !!! yes tough engines. Retro Power
Wouldn't call it fast as such, but able to embarrass a few modern cars easy enough! What does the speedo read to, is it 120mph or so? Seem to remember it sitting on the end of the scale when playing with a new scirocco once!
taylorblue5
Well folks here's an update on my Ascona project. I'v sorted all of the accident damage and had a full respray done in bmw Karmesen red which looks spot on! Iv also got all my parts to turbocharge the 20seh engine that it's running. The car passed it's mot first time and I drove it straight down to Cumbria and it's an absolute peach. I'm planning on fitting a set of volvo 4 pots or calibra turbo calipers next with a rear disc conversion that I have waiting.
Paul Barrett
Lovely looking ascona, the only tiny thing is the chrome rear, chrome front would Look good!
Retro Power
Fair play lad! glad the car went to you :-) Only just noticed that the front wheels are photoshopped in from copies of the rear in the above photos - the give-away was that the actual fronts when fitted in 'real life' sit almost flush with the arch.. it'll look much better in reality than in the photoshop pics ;-) Turbo bits eh... i'd toyed with that idea myself... was going to bung a de-comp plate on it and do the same - people getting as good power from these as a LET with a decent turbo setup
taylorblue5
Haha. Ye I photoshopped on the wheels to see how it will look when done. I'm back at work for the time being so plenty of time to see what looks right. I'm goin to use the colour coded Manta rear bumper too when I source a number plate light. Wanted the car to be different hence the gte body kit.
taylorblue5
I'v got a decompression plate there waiting along with a t28 turbo from a fiat coupe turbo 20 and now have everything required minus an intercooler, any ideas what size of intercooler fits behind the grill n between the lights? taylorblue5
Actually can't believe I can't see my own pictures because I refuse to pay 25 quid. Goin to update this anyway. I recently advertised my Manta to pay for courses for work but hadn't got much interest. That's not my loss as somebodies missed out on a great car at a good price. Not to worry, just stripped the car and going to be painted. Probably going to put an Xe in it with rear disc conversion and power steering if funds allow. The car is to be painted in Glacier white and will have Rota drift wheels and full exclusive kit minus spoiler.

taylorblue5
Decoded to build the Manta after all. Here's where we're at. It now has a rear disc conversion and power steering and is being fitted with a C20SEH engine.
