Rapierdave
Hi all Today 26th July i went to the first Festival of the unexceptional held near Silverstone as an antidote to the Silverstone Classic. I was invited to bring the Manta along with fifty other entrants limited to sixties seventies & eighties family cars that are now a rare site on uk roads ( Stags & MGB's were not allowed ) Here are some pics i took & i've put them here in the form of a quiz for you knowledgeable Manta peeps, no prizes just a bit of fun when your bored. I will put up the answer pics up tomorrow sometime. Number one What car is this ? Number two What car is this engine from ? Number three What car is this ? Number four What is this ? Number five What car is this ? Number six What car is this ? Number seven This was voted by the panel of motoring journalists as the winning car What is it ? Scribe of Lincoln
1. Skoda Rabid Convertible 136 2. Talbot Tagora? 3. VW Variant Type 3 4. Renault 6 TL 5. Datsun Bluebird 180B 6. Daihatsu Charade 7. Toyota Starlet 8. Nissan Cherry Europe 9. Fiat Strada (early model) 10. Vauxhall Carlton Mk1 11. Ford Cortina Mk3 Good quiz! I'd have loved to have gone to that show. stradacab
Number 2 is a Douvrin V6 fuel injection so could be Tagora, Pug 604 or R30TX. Based on the scuttle I'm going R30.
stradacab
.....and it's an Alfa Arna, not Cherry obviously due to the flat 4. A mate of mines brother had a Cherry Turbo in that shape, wonder if the Alfa or Cherry Turbo is the more rare one now? Looking at the lineup I would think that survival figures for the likes of the R30, R6, Arna etc could be in single figure digits by now. 1900SR
Of course, 6 is a Charade, silly me. The Cherry Europe also used the Alfa engine, though not sure if it was Alfa badged. And now that Ben says Strada for the last one it makes sense, I thought the clocks looked familiar, similar to a Fiat 131 I think. 1900SR
I knew there was a Cherry with an Alfa engine, but didn't realise the engine was still badged Alfa.
Scribe of Lincoln
Love that Renault 30 apart from the appalling stripe down the side. My Dad had a 20TL that colour back in 1978 - it was an ex motor show display car - the French had applied their usual attention to detail when it came to the wiring - press the button for the electric sunroof and the drivers window went down...... Seriously comfy car in the back - especially compared to the Morris Marina estate 1.3 deluxe it replaced.
