The 2.0L CIH was oversquare , Big bore, short stroke. the result of overboring the 1.6L / 1.9L

The 2.2L had a long throw crank making the enigine 'squarer' again, theorectically giving better torque, perhaps done with the Record E / Carlton MK 1 in mind

The 2.4L was an overbore of the 2.2L

2.4 has the same bore as 2.2 iirc, but a different crank (and longer rods).

i always believed that the 2.2L was a longer throw crank and the 2.4L was an overbore of this

.

Been trying to find dimensions for the various engine sizes, the 1.9L has a 69.8mm stroke and 93mm pistons, the 2.0L retained the same 69.8mm stroke but the piston size went upto 95mm.

The 2.2L engine had it's stroke increased to 77.5mm with the 95mm pistons, The 2.4L had it's stroke increased again but i have not been able to dig up dimensions for this engine.

If you go onto the American opelgt.com website there they discuss this engine in great detail in various tuning threads.

The 2.4 did it with extra stroke alright, not bore, it is 85mm stroke. The 2.4 rods are 'special', being longer, at 134mm, than other CIH rods, which are 128mm. A 2.4 block actually has a little extra clearance added so that the rod big ends clear the block walls.
