®evo03
Sounds like relay, you can connect your suspect relay and search here, 2p trick! If you are after full rebuild, make sure flow and return is correct, as haynes manual is wrong, the return should be after pressure reg. You could disconnect flow pipe and use a jar or bottle to collect, clear wine bottle works well, Search part number for 3 series bmw, someone said they are the same?
cam.in.head
yes it will run if you short 87 and 30 and with the coin trick in the fusebox .this proves pump is ok it should run when cranking over (try it with small spade unplugged from starter to prove if needs be)and should run when it sees a signal from the green wire from the ignition /coil control unit. if it doesnt do either its either a faulty relay or faulty wiring

Hi,so you are saying that the fuel feed to injectors is the lower pipe not the higher pipe to the regulator, cheers for that.
®evo03
Think from memory the feed goes into a t piece, the return is from the regulator on the injection rail, the pump pushes pressured fuel to the rail, and injectors, the regulatory opens when returning unused fuel. Just make sure, pipes are as above trace em back, pump should be flow. Return is into narrow hosel, coupe, or sender unit on hatch. But it does sound like its either your wiring or more than likely the injection relay, that have given trouble in the past, if you are buying one! Buy two, keep it in the car as a spare
cam.in.head
if you do need a relay they should be easy to find but remember you dont just need to limit yourself to asking for a manta gte one. carlton mk2 2.0 / 2.2 up to 86 and senator/monza 2.5 / 3.0 up to 86.also opel rekord ,and most of the astra cavalier etc again up to 86 ish before the motronic came in. have you isolated the fault to the relay then or the wiring ? (or as other poster said the fuel supply pipes )
