13" ATS Classic Wheels with near new tyres - For Manta Ascona SR B-Series 4x100 fits all classic Vauxhall/Opel/VW

A set of 4 unrestored but good condition ATS Classic wheels that were fitted to the Manta and Ascona B-series, I think standard on the SR models or perhaps were an option. They are 4x100 with an offset of ET30, so fit practically all classic Vauxhall/Opel models and the guy I bought them from had them on a lowered Volkswagen of some kind.

I have fitted a set of Nankang 205/60/13 tyres, which have only done 1000 miles so are in near new condition and look beefy under the Manta wheel arch whether stock or lowered.

I don't have anywhere to host pictures. These are not the actual wheels I'm selling, but here's a picture below of the same wheels I found online to give you an idea of what they look like. If you PM me, the site will probably let me attach pictures there or I can send them to your email address. I do have all four chrome centre caps too, but they're Vauxhall branded, Opel ones are still available to buy both new and used. They look good when fitted with matching chrome wheel nuts.

I'm asking £350 for the set, but anyone on this forum can have them for £300 (and bear in mind the tyres were £260) if you can collect within a month.

I'm based just outside Witney in Oxfordshire. Thanks.

Look grand on an early hatch or maybe an SR 🤔 I just need one first 🙄 I have the feeling both the red and white cars currently on Fleabay are a whole can of worms... Any tips on getting bodyshops moving? 😐

That's a decent price, would look really well with a chrome split rim outer ring, if it was doable?

Or on a manta B, or Cav, really suit the early hatch for some reason 🤔

Thanks. Those rings won't fit as there's nowhere for the clips to hold on to. Although I had them fitted with chrome wheel nuts and that did make a nice contrast. I think the Manta and Ascona SR has them with black plastic centres and wheel nut covers originally, as by '79-'80 chrome was very out of fashion unless it targeting the older motorist.

Also, ignore the £350 on Marketplace; they're £300 ono to OMOC, Cavalier/Chevette club, etc.

Those are from a specialised company that do all size ranges, etc. Must be ok if they have a business specialising in doing it. 🤔

I do wonder if they sell them as road going or ‘static show ‘ ?  But I would more likely trust a company that has all the right setup and liability insurance.

Luckily for me in my day job, I have access to metallurgist engineers that know their stuff and use stress modelling software. They helped me (well it cost me a meal & beers) when I set out on my quest for wheels as I did originally think about modding (making centres from OEM alloys) and why I ended up going down the bespoke route. the risk after machining (removing metal) , reworking and then the need to have material put back on, heat treatment and then tested was too much risk & cost.

It can be seen when people ‘crack’ OEM alloy wheels on roads, the crack is welded that ultimately cracks again at some point. The welding actually introduces weakness, especially when the spec of alloy mix in the original casting is not known, the welders can never be 100% set properly (filler rod) not to mention 2 different wheels from slightly different alloy mixes.
(we are talking about CAST wheels specifically here as these are what was used on the most common & cheaper OEM end)

To me, anyone that risks using welded wheels from a non coded welder, that has never had any of their welds Xrayed or destructive tested(sheer load) , or can even show they can produce them to any basic standards, is taking an unbelievable leap of faith when you drive down that A road or motorway. Never mind risking void of insurance or criminal liability should the worst happen. Just remember this, ignorance or naivety is not a defence.

So if you do get some modded wheels, please just use them for show and use others to drive to/from events, IMHO.

Few more pics of standard wheels, with added split rim outer ring.

Looks like alot of thought has gone into these, just look at that 944, grown in there. Also Astra, both showing not much room for error

Would really like to see these with a ring added, outer split rim ring. Would look so nice on a cavalier sports hatch.

or stepped into a larger alloy.

Can it be done? 🤔

There are ppl that will mod these, but these will be a cast alloy of unknown mix and would you risk it? On a wheel that held together by welds that are not proven or tested? There is a reason critical welds are done by coded welders that gave sample welds checked by X-rays. Not to mention the damage to the heat treating process/strength etc. it also does not just change the offset, but the load centreline of the wheel. If in doubt, give your insurance company a call as something like this is enough to void a claim should an incident occur.

There are plenty of horror stories out there of failures 😬 Good for show use ofc, but not Road imo.

Yes agree, and the company disclaimers are out there, just showing what's out there in how wheels are modified. Although interesting disclaimers also, came across alot of company's that only do these, regardless there must be a market, for shows etc. 👍
