mepbowles
Sorry for the wait, I stripped out the dash this lunchtime so the box is free. I'll give it a clean and packaged it up tonight. It was a good excuse to remove it all and see what it was hiding. Proof of life later .
mepbowles
Proof of life. There's a small corner missing out of the main cover (see finger), and the end cap is in 3 pieces but might scan in okay. I'll also include the round heater blower cover and the left hand side pad. If there's any appetite for the steering tunnel one too so a complete set can be made I can get that off too. Having them away will give me a tiny bit more space to work. Edited November 14 by mepbowles
IanG
Thanks, If it helps just send the end cap and the retaining plastic trim and the round heater blower cover save on post and I can get them scanned and get started.

mepbowles
To update folks the heater box has been sent to Ian, along with all rubber that covers it and the bit behind the battery tray. The other 3 rubber pieces on the drivers side were too much effort to remove for now. I'm happy to send them when I redo the brakes. My end cap isn't great but it's a simple part so might not even need scanning if these guys are any good. It looks like I should sell my spare set now before the market is flooded and noone wants one that's falling apart 😁 1

Does anyone have pictures of a whole end cover so I can see exactly how it should look, need front back and both sides please.
Metalbasher
From my archive, do these help? Included are images of the heater matrix cover the rubber fits onto.

Great thanks really helps, so the one I have looks to be different though it has the same part number there is no GM stamp…….

And the bottom hole is not circular it looks clean so assume it was made like that, maybe early ones were different?
Metalbasher
That’s unexpected, it does look different. Mine’s off a 1980 Sportshatch if that helps, maybe the heater matrix changed on later vehicles, here’s mine (pipes now repaired, no one needs a crushed pipe)..
IanG
Now needs some filler work and straightening out a tad, reckon I could make a template to turn the slot to a round hole as an option when scanning
Jessopia74
Nice reconstruction 👍 If it’s not good enough in the end to scan, then I can see if I can pull it off the Silver coupe

mepbowles
Yeah, sorry! Annoyingly it's the worst bit I had but it's the only end cap I had. Ideally a better one would be used to scan, especially if it has a nice GM logo on it. It's off a 1978 Cavalier MK1 Saloon if we want to see any correlation in design through the years. From memory the slot did look like an original design rather than a piece missing but I can't be sure.

Sounds good I’m near Wakefield and commute to Selby and Derby once a week if you are anywhere within reach I could collect.

Whilst have family in Selby I can post it np, business expense so not going to be out if pocket as such.
®evo03
Any guesstimate on price yet, be interesting seeing finished results. How is the peddle box hump and washer area going to be held in shape to scan. Well-done, hope this goes well.

Not yet needs scanning for quotes, first priorities are the heater and fan covers

I didn't send him the steering cowl rubber as I wasn't ready to strip the area down but when I get to it, I can post it out. Assuming the first round goes well. There's also the other flatter it's that are pinned to the firewall either side of the gearbox and against the top of the scuttle panel
mepbowles
I got to the brake cowl washer bottle side today. Mine is missing the leftmost section but if wanted I can post it off. I'm not sure how the bit the wiper motor rests on works either. It looks like a separate piece but mine is in pieces. It's staying loosely in place until it needs to move otherwise it'll sag.
IanG
Thanks for the update will get on with fettling the covers that I have, I think the main challenge once scanned is getting them made in a suitable material that isn’t affected by heat but insulates and is thick enough to hold its shape.
®evo03
Tiger seal has worked before. Once fully hardened, probably about a good 5-7 days. It can be shaped, sanded and works well blending it in, joints, edges, cracks. 2
