Mushter
Hi there. As the old CIH engine is not one most of the engineering workshops are too familiar with nowadays I'm hoping you can help me. I'm looking for someone with experience who can install larger valves and port/polish a cylinder head for me ? I know installing larger valves and hardened seats is bread and butter for all machine shops but porting is where experience really counts as it's easy to make a pigs ear of it. I'm in the middle of restoring a 1970 GT and the engine is next in line for a rebuild. There still seem to be German tuners who offer a specific upgrade for the CIH engine but I was wondering if there was still someone over here who you can recommend to could take it on. Cheers, Jon.
Jessopia74
Yeah, loads of the smaller guys don’t like working with the cast heads, but lots to be gained if they do these heads right. One thing you need to decide is the goals. David Young has done some heads for me and I did visit his little unit to look at other work he had in progress. He does ford Pinto / Xflow heads so does cast.. He is based in Doncaster, but does receive/ship by courier etc. he has plenty of pics on his profile of work too. Circa £200 for 8valve head. https://www.facebook.com/mrfixit.enginetuning
611
Get a decent cam. These guys do some nice ones https://www.enem.se/ not cheap but very good and they are helpful as well. And an adjustable cam sprocket so you can dial it in a bit better. Had that setup on my old 2.1 and it does make a different along with the big valve head. Mushter
Cheers for the replies. So as far as you're aware, there are no people who have any direct experience with these engines anymore ? Other than dealing with a firm that port any manufacturers head I don't have any options ? I know these engines are old tech but there must be some of these guys from back in the day still in business or alive 😂.

However, the gains from porting are not specific to the CIH, there is no special tricks that just apply to theses heads that don’t carry over. The port size if the CIH is plenty big enough for the demand on the engine, its restriction is valves and the valve bowls. Swapping to the larger c30ne valves and porting will help, but as already pointed out the cam is the key to developing more power up the rev range. There are probably more ppl that have experience with modding/fitting the 24v head onto the 4pot block these days. SlowestEverResto
Torque Developments International plc 0800 107 3250 https://g.co/kgs/2DqSzLh I contacted these guys a few years ago. They prepared numerous cars and offered a number of CIH conversions back in the day and where prepared to quote on preparation of a modded head and cam combination for me but unfortunately life delayed me and I've yet to do anything about it. 611
Lots of good info from these guys in the US https://www.opelgt.com/ I know it doesn't exactly help but there might be some info on there that could help an engine shop or maybe look to buy a head that has already had all the work done to it if you can find one. Quite a few places in Germany that still work on them but UK is not a great place for getting work done on these engines. Northampton motorsport tuned my inject, so might be worth seeing if they know anyone that can help? Andy
Mushter
Thanks very much everyone. I'll have to brush up on my German then by the sounds of it.🤣 Cheers, Jon.

It might be worth contacting Thomas at https://www.edelschmiede.com/ if you are thinking of going the German route for the cylinder head as he might be able to suggest a good contact over there. Worth a go. Andy
H-400
Would surprise me if there is no one to find in the UK. But you don't have to look for Germany, in Belgium are also some CIH tuners: Google "TT autosport" and "Lahouter Motorsport". Both firms are in the west side of Belgium and as most Flemish they will have a basic of the English language. There websites are not up to date but they have a facebook site. Visiting there facebook sites is worth for the nice pictures, I don't have a facebook account but they are public.
