opel2000
Very much liking this repair. Feel quite guilty now, as I've had the equipment to do this properly, and the ability to repair like this but could never be arsed to spend the time doing it when it was gonna be hid behind a sideskirt. That's twice today now I've seen a sill properly repaired, oh well, I'll carry on with my bodging ways I guess. Good work there.
Stonymanta
Ok, so more progress over the last couple of weeks..... Sill finished welding (filler and the rest will be needed): And the front of the rear Arch on the same side: Ground off welded and primed prior to welding in new outer... New peice of steel to go in : Welded and ground off : Primed (for now ;-)): Hope you enjoyed this installment of welding Porn ;-) Ian and I reckon we're 75% of the way there now - so won't be too long before we start on the other side.... Stonymanta
loving the work thats gone into this Thanks a lot - Ian Virco is the metal bending guru and does most of the welding. I usually make templates, grind-off and prime when we're done. Just the drivers side to tackle now - rear arch/sill area and the front drivers side floor and chssis rails next. Expect we'll get most of the welding finished by end of June. With only a couple of hours or so each week progress is sloooowwwww. But still we're getting there Edited April 9, 2011 by Stonymanta

Stonymanta
Ok so we have turned the Manta round on the Body Roller to start the drivers side of the car. Rust looks worse than we first thought - but then again this is a Manta we're talking about Rolled : Lower rear quarter : Front on lower rear arch - body kit item to be carefully removed.... Jacking point sill looks decidedly crusty tho' The usual issue You know sometimes you think was this a wise decision to start all this - well it's one of 'those' moments I guess. But knowing now that there is a russell Brookes Manta 400 on Dirt 3 has made me smile and motivated me again Keep the faith....
adz the stig
nice work! are you planning on keeping it after you finish it?
Leon
Wonder if that lower rear quarter can be saved, depends what it's like once you get all the corrosion off, looks like it's been tarted up there before? Not looking forward to doing those bits on my hatch, definitely adding some drain holes when I get it sorted too!
Stonymanta
Quick catch-up update prior to Billing - yes I haven't forgot the Manta - how could I Rear lower quarter/arch - driver side continues: Welded primed and grinded and painted again : Wheel arch had two patches needed too : getting there : Ok so June didn't happen - but with a car for daughter being sorted too there has been little time in the last few days...... Roll on Billing
Stonymanta
Ok so time for the drivers side jacking point area and the rear of the sill. We are going to tackle the front bottom of the rear arch shortly - some starting pics of this included... Remember this: Well we have welded up a new inner strengthener and we did this :

Stonymanta
Just started working away for the next 10 weeks - so progress is on-hold - but the bills have to be paid ;-) Last work done a month or so ago now - we're getting there : Just the floor pan on the drivers side and the chassis rails to repair and we're just about there. See you at the NEC with the Commy ;-)!
