casper1483
ARRRRRRRRRR the smell of burning underseal and the black things that come out of your nose for about a week, I had almost forgot what it was like but the christmas break has got me back into it. I havent touched E145 GFV for some time because of work, the house, the wife etc but now I am back into it, I have been doing it one side at a time as garage space is limited, As you are well aware these cars are like ginger biscuits but my saving grace was that when it was last on the road about 1997 it won a best in show so up to that point at least it had been looked after, my intention is to do it to a usable standard with the only mods being for reliability, I have renewed as much as I can on the suspension and had the brakes reconditioned also doing the welding as I have found it, I am now on the near side and hopefully the last of the welding then I can concentrate on the engine bay, I will put some pictures on to show you some of the progress that I have made now I have got the bug again and I will put some more on as things happen, But i dont know how to, can somebody help, thanks. casper1483
Oh dear,,,,,,,,,,, Ive just gone out and bought another manta, its a two slot 1978 2.0 sr with no rust in the usual places exept rear arches, a bit frustrating having spent the best part of last years spare time welding my exclusive, so i am now in a dilema, 2 slot or 4 slot which one gets the full treatment,

casper1483
I would love to but time money and the wife are putting pressure on the outcome, but here is my case..... In 1988 I joined the army and my PGW978R two slot SR took me to london and windsor for the best part of 4 years the only mod being 5 speed box and after some old biddy took it out and wrote it off ( stupid old **** ) I promised to get another and finally I have After 18 years I have found one , case two.. My best mate took loads of p*** out of me for my old two slot and we spent hours together making unwanted hatches go faster and he said he always wanted an Exclusive. When the day finally came he was the proud owner of a 1988 exclusive that once belonged to the late Robert Hughs and boy did he gloat !!. unfortunately he was killed by a white van man and his wife thought it appropriate that I should have it. it is now fully weldered, new shocks springs brakes etc etc the list goes on but its got to the expensive bits paint, exhaust lights etc, money that could sort the SR, Can any body help
IanMc
Out of loyalty to your sadly departed mate and his Widow I would do that one - follow your heart I guess. I reckon he'd love you to sort that one out. That's my tuppence anyway.

casper1483
yep, picked it up last night, I was tipped off about it so i went down and so him and made him an over and he took it, chuffed to bits with it, he was scared that it would end up banger racing or something, hes got shut of it cos hes gone to the dark side ( mk2 escort ), and apart from trim down the sides its identical to the one i had in

Worst case get a cheap white respray and use that as "primer" for the right colour when money is willing. Also the car that is solid now in two or three years might need all the welding ALREADY done to your exclusive, barring th honeymoon period it could be a step back instead of a step forward
casper1483
I would never let either of them go to scrap there far too good for that, but its a case of either two non runners or one done and the other shelved.

True, but point still stands that you might have to repeat all the work done on the exclusive again. In the last 20 years I've had 5 mantas for full time road use and sooner or later they all go in the same places. Mine has been off the road for 18 months now for some quick MOT work and I was cursing it. Then I remembered it was the only Manta I've had that I haven't done floorpans sills and footwells etc for BEFORE starting to use it. It was just its time for it is all. All.
