mantaboy89
Got a bit of trouble with my suspension setup on my cav, have lowered it by 60mm so it is pretty low, I have also fitted spax adjustable shocks to it but the front ones are too long and I only have an inch travel on them, so when driving over bumps there's not enough travel and its essentially bottoming out Has anyone had this problem and what shocks can i use inatead? mantadoc
Are you sure the rubber stops haven't dropped out of the middle of the cones at th etop of the front springs? Or have you shortened the bumpstops? Without shortened or missing bumpstops standard length shocks should never run out of travel. Lowered cars will often sit on the bump stops or have a banging or bottoming on one or more sides if they are missing.
mantaboy89
Nah, there plenty of room for the bumpstops, i removed the nut from the top of the shock and compressed it on the car and it only dropped an inch n a half max, springs are all fine too,
mantadoc
Well the shocks shouldn't bottom out even if the car is squashing the bumpstops so either they don't have the required travel or you think the metal cones are the bump stops and are missing the rubber bits
spiney_norman
Are they the springs and shocks I sold you Josh? If so, I know it sounds daft but you haven't fitted the rear shocks on the front have you? Because I drove on that setup myself for about 18 months with no problems except the hard ride making my teeth hurt!
opelmantagsi
hope its not the rear shocks fitted to the front?
mantaboy89
Definaty not the wrong shocks fitted, and springs are the correct ones, but only have just over an inch travel on the shocks. This is causing a loud bang when hitting bumps n ruts as the shock reaches its lowest compression stops the spring dead and is starting to annoy now. spiney_norman
I used to get loud bangs when hitting bumps on those, always assumed it was because it was such a stiff setup though! Sure I could compress the front shocks properly when I took them off.
rutts
koni do shorter shocks when using lowered springs. german ebay or koni uk.
TJM
Spax recommend shortened dampers over 40mm lowering due to suspension travel problems. I can also supply these if needed. Regards Tim
