I wont make it after all.

Manta decided to become well and truly ****ed. Will now be changing whole fuelling system, never mind just repairing the ignition.

Bike carbs are not for a CIH, no matter what anyone says.

Annoyed I didnt make it.

On sat morn car was running fine. Took it a couple blasts, and left engine running a while seemed ok. Late afternoon I went to take it the short distance to maplins to get some heatsinks to try keep module cooler and made it about 1 1/2 mile before it started running rough. Broke down on a roundabout! Got it moved and let it sit a while. Started off again and 100 meters later no power but could tell it wasnt ignition. Head under bonnet and one of bike carbs had come off silicon hose. Reattached and carried on. Carbs started popping like crazy and lost all power again. Under bonnet the whole lot had come off the manifold and one of the filters had been 'blown open'

Whilst a big queue of traffic formed I stood in the rain trying to ram the carbs back on. Got it going but it ran like crap. Only just made it home.

Manta is now awaiting an injection setup and new ignition system. (I briefly pondered throttle bodies but think by now I should stick to standard setup so I can actually drive the damn thing)

The joys of classic cars.

Cheers kev. The module was a new one I had fitted with thermal paste. Got a spare, but am getting another with the injection setup. I've had the distributor out and can't find any probs with it. I'll get a new coil for it. One thats on was a NOS off ebay. Shoulda spent a couple more quid on a new one!

I've decided bike carbs are a bad idea on a cih. they were a nightmare to fit, cost a fortune and being above the exhaust manifold has caused problems (fire being one of them!) but the 18mpg are what really hurt!

I intend a few roadtrips with it and will get better economy, less noise, and hopefully more reliability with the injection.

Adam, with any luck I'll be up in scourie first week of july. You heading to billing?

no billing for me way to far to go lol. would go like but wouldnt take the manta lol.

That manta has been at billing the last few years. Its only 600 miles!

I'm definitely up for it next year too if I'm at home, it would be great to get a few mantas together. Are there any more Scottish shows this year?

Theres a couple at knockhill, quite a few meets at hillclimbs where jock races. Theres something at scone. For more northern stuff theres a show at a castle near golspie, and one in Dingwall.
