A series tank is no good for your job, Just get a B series injection tank will save a lot of hassle, you will also need the fuel pump assembly from underneath a injection model ( brackets etc ) Plus the engine bulkhead plug from an injection loom as you will need to do a few wiring mods like removing and replacing the resistance coil wire with a normal type cable.

WHAT ?? A B-series tank will never fit a A series car, what are you talking about. The B series tank is located behind the rear seats and the A series tank is located under the trunk floor ??? Completely different designs...

Jim; you should search for a Manta A GT/E tank but they can be very hard to find. They have the fuel return pipe. If that is not possible you can get a fuel return pipe soldered onto your existing tank. Another possibility (however a bit on the expensive side) could be a trunk mounted safety tank from Motorsports.. But again, that will set you back a pretty penny.

Any plummer workshop should be able to solder a fuel return for you, just remember that the tank must be completely cleaned (not just emptied) before you do anything to it. Some even fill them with water when working on them.

The B coupe tank fits nicely behind the rear seats with a little work making mounts and pipework from what i've seen actually.

sorry ,internets been crap !!!!

want to keep the tank where it is and not give up any boot space .

so ill go down the route of putting a return pipe on the tank !

any place in particular the return pipe should be located ?

or would any where on the top lip of the tank do ?

What ? What about the tube for filling up the fuel ? It is located extremly low on the A series cars and i cannot ever see how it should be possible...

I would very much like to see pictures of such a mod !

Its a very easy mod, Ive done it a few times, you leave the filler on the B series tank and fill from the boot, just like the rally cars. lol as for where the tanks fit on the A and B series, I think after 15 years of restoring and moding mantas I might have an idea where they are located :D

Might if I get time take a pic of my V8 a series as I have the tank fitted in the boot of it beside the NOS Tank.

I'm sure there are many ways of doing what you require, the way I did it when I fitted a 24v engine to my Commodore was to take the fuel sender unit out of the tank, drill a hole, fit some pipe and solder in place, that was 7 years ago and it's still running fine today, that way you remove any danger of setting yourself on fire as well!!

This link will show you the difference between the standard A tank and the one used in germany for the injection A series.

http://www.theopelproject.com/shop-manual/opel-manta-a-series-injection-fuel-tank.pdf (might take a little while to open as a large file)

you can see from the second tank photo where the return comes in at the right hand side.

and a little mod im doing to mine :-) in tank swirl pot and pump.
