opelman
I am running a standard XE16v with a distributor set up and am considering throttle bodies, has anyone any experience of this conversion and I notice QED do a kit and wondered if it clears the brake servo ? any help most welcome with regards to ease of fitting and wiring etc
Joe
Bike carbs will do the job more cheaply, clear the servo and save the need for much, if any, wiring. Just a thought. http://www.boggbros.co.uk/
rutts
if you go bike carbs get an astra gte mk1 dizzy and a manta gte/1.8 coil pac that will get you running very nicely. 180bhp that will do loverly
opelscott22
If you have the cash for bodies go for it. Carbs are always a compromise. I had a Viva HC with an XE on R1 carbs and cant complain about them, good sound, power and economy. I now have an XE with the SBD taper jenveys on and its night and day. The engine really screams, starts very well from cold and has good throttle response from low down. The Vivas gone now but the XE is going in my manta. To answer your question, the QED DTH bodies will go in a Manta with the short trumpets to clear the servo. The wiring isnt an issue as its a closed system, needing only a few wires connecting to the car. When you order you can specify a RWD loom which will come with all the connectors in the right place and the ECU will go in the drivers footwell. Thats with the DTA ecu and the raychem loom. Scott. Devil Fish
Yes it will clear, check out my project thread (link in signature), as I went QED also... I did go for a polo servo in the end though as it gives more clearance for a plenum, if I ever get around to it!
simon p
SBD208 Taper throttlebodies clear stock servo as well as the polo option. I fitted QED and SBD throttlebodies and from my experience, SBD's set up is far superior
opelman
many thanks for your replies, having received quotes from both SBD and QED I need to decide which to go with, the SBD kit is a bit more expensive. thanks again
lamchop77
Check out the at power throttle bodies, they are meant to give moe airflow than std setups. Think TJM has become a stockist for these as well.
